However, don't get me wrong. I agree 100% that they have no respect for our laws the second they step across our border.

I live in Los Angeles, probably the illegal alien captial of the USA. I see them hanging out in front of home depot every morning. Law enforcement does absolutely nothing. The LAPD does not, in this case, enforce federal law.

It is a violation of their rights to stop them and ask for identification?

I am not an attorney, so I fail understand how someone here illegally shares the same rights as a person her legally.

This retarded practice of many cities is amply called "sanctuary policy" and the cities that do it are "sanctuary cities". It is no small wonder that these "sanctuary cities" (like my hometown of Houston) are huge magnets for illegal aliens. Yet...the Federal government does little to discourage this practice and they could by cutting off the offending cities from Federal $$$ if they fail to get with the program.

In many of these cities police don't even ask the immigration status of criminals they arrest or give tickets to. Even if they are driving around without a license or insurance!!! They just get released from jail after serving time or posting bail when they should really be DEPORTED. The cops really should be able to ask the status of individuals they come into contact with in their daily duties and detain them for I.C.E. if they are in the USA illegally.

Here is a just one link I found, but you can Google up more on "sanctuary cities" if you want to learn more about this ridiculous policy and the moronic politicians that support it:

http://www.ojjpac.org/sanctuary.asp

I have been b*tching about Houston's illegal alien friendly policies for years. No wonder our city has illegals flocking here by the tens of thousands! All I can do is b*tch, write protest letters to the politicians, and vote against the jerks that support it.

but isn't asking for their ID's without a reason is agains the 4th ammendment? how r u suppose to enforce that law?

or th ammendments don't apply to illegal aliens??

I disagree. Cops are just not trained to understand immigration law. As someone who has dealt with USCIS, you know how complex "status" can get for certain cases and to expect a cop to wrap his mind around it when he already has enough to worry about, is unfair.

However, to me the law is not the be-all, end-all. Me, I follow the law when it seems like a good idea.

Dude, you so need to expat over to Somalia. At once. Dude, trust me, it's the perfect spot for ya'. Everyone does as he pleases. Nature as in "survival of the fittest" pure. No laws and other civilized shite. Who needs this ####### anyways, right? Freedom pure, dude. Oh, don't forget to pack your very own AK-47 and plenty of ammo.

What I meant to say is that I am not a freaking robot. When law conflicts with common sense, guess what? I break the d@mn law! I'm sure you've broken a few yourself if you think about it. Never go just a little over the speed limit? Jaywalk? And Somalia... yeah you're right I should go there. So should you and everybody else. You know what? The Somalians should come here too... in fact we should trade places for a while.

The point I'm trying to make is that laws should be enforced for the purpose of protecting and helping people, not to penalize hungry people or arbitrarily collect money for technical yet insignificant violations. It is a MORAL CRIME to have 10 loaves of bread and the guy who baked them for you can't afford to buy half of one to feed his family. JMO.

The one thing I really liked about Mexico was the quality and cheapness of the bread. Most of the stuff in the US is ####### and that which is acceptable is expensive.

Where did this come from? I'm not advocating midnight sweeps and rousting anyone from their sleep to be taken to the gulag. Or even randomly stopping someone on the street for no reason. I'm talking about daily interaction that cops have with ALL individuals. As far as the Home Depot congregations of illegals...haven't you ever heard of laws against loitering and vagrancy?

Do you have a problem with asking the immigration status of individuals arrested and in custody for other offenses? Shouldn't the cops know who they are arresting and what they are about? If they arrest an illegal for drunk driving without a license...shouldn't he be released to I.C.E. after serving jail time? And not just released back on the street?

I disagree. Cops are just not trained to understand immigration law. As someone who has dealt with USCIS, you know how complex "status" can get for certain cases and to expect a cop to wrap his mind around it when he already has enough to worry about, is unfair.

There are plenty of bills floating around Congress to do just that...train local police about immigration matters and to reimburse costs for detaining illegals. Is it so overwhelming for the police departments to check the immigration status of criminals in their custody? This is already done in many cities using existing laws. Is it such an impossible task for local governments to require proof of status for non-emergency city services? Many cities already do just that.

For city governments to take an active stand to be actively uncooperative with Federal immigration agencies as a standing policy of city government is total bullsh*t. It's all about P.C. Cities should not be sanctuaries for illegal aliens or be illegal alien friendly. You get what you tolerate. These cities actively tolerate illegal immigration for the P.C. crowd they love to pander to.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

From my own personal experience with my wifes K1, there were times when she wasn't really documented. For example the time after her K1 status expired and until she had her EAD. The I-797c isn't proof of status. If we have cops asking for documentation, the immigration process will have to be simplified first. JMHO.

Let's hold off on singing Depeche Mode just yet

Firstly, where do you draw the line about which laws you follow and which ones you don't? Are you advocating personal approval of the laws before following them? I mean, I could tell you I find the law against murder silly. How I came to that conclusion is just as subjective & personal as how you came to the 'I won't sit at a red light at night when it's deserted' theory. BTW, I could sit here and tell you how a person such as yourself chose not to sit at the light and wound up plowing into my friend's car & killing her. So bravo for deeming that unimportant.

I sing Grateful Dead songs. And the occasional Kumbaya...

Um, I told you where I draw the line. When the law is deemed unnecessary/unjust/unrisky to break.. I break the sucker! It's liberating, try it. Yeah, you could ignore the law against murder. Go ahead, people do it all the time. Of course you probably won't do it, because it's probably not worth the likely consequences. Sometimes it is, though, for some people. The law won't stop them from killing people.

And I'm sorry about your friend. I could also tell you about people that were killed by someone entirely within the law. People die all the time, and you'll just have to trust me when I say that I am not running red lights when there is ANY chance of hitting anyone. Hell, if there is a car anywhere in SIGHT I don't do it, cuz it might be a COP! Oh, I used to smoke a lot of weed too. Hell, to the point of felony. Real dangerous stuff.

You know what I'm trying to do now? Look both ways when I go through a GREEN light. See, I've been programmed to think it's safe, but as you know, it isn't always, is it? Somebody's brakes might be out, and I'd get killed. Program, deprogram, reprogram.

Passport and AOS notice will do.
