Ok, I'm totally coming into this topic late and haven't read the posts but my mom asked me how I felt about it tonight and gave me her views. She thinks they should each (the immigrants) pay $200 each to get their greencard in order to help pay for it because we, the taxpayers, are gonna end up funding all the effort and paperwork it takes to get them their greencard (and we all know it's expensive!). Just her opinion, I'm definitely not here to debate! :)

$200 or $2,000

I would certainly have got my flexible friend out and paid $2,000 if I could just have turned up at the POE and walked away with GC in hand.

There is a lot of logic in moving the Border south a bit. I think it would be a fairly safe bet that if it was put to the vote in Mexico it would be overwhelmingly approved. And of course Mexico is a lot stricter with its own illegals.

Would help with the US Army recruitment issues as well.

Now there would be a need for a new source of illegals, I understand that the Mexican sweat shops are losing out big time to China as the wages there are 1/3 of Mexico. Perhaps that could be the new source?

Chances of it happening are of course similar to the politicians actually doing anything to resolve the issues in hand.

She said $200. I'm thinking not many people could pay up $2000 earning under minimum wage in a lot of these jobs illegal immigrants work at! This is just what she said though :)

That was yesterday. Try $15.00-$30.00 for construction type jobs that many of them work at. Or $7.00 - $10.00 for packing and shipping line type work. Below minimum wage? Some but surely not most...

America has been utilizing mexican labor for over a hundred years. When times are good, nobody complains. When times get bad, it all their fault.

As long as america provides better opportunity than Mexico, and the borders continue to be full of holes, the illegals will continue to come here.

We have laws which penalize employers for hiring illegals ($10,000 per person for the 1st violation), however the federal gov't chooses not to enforce these laws. If no job opportunities exist, the illegal immigration would all but come to a grinding halt.

Don't blame the illegal immigrant for wanting opportunity, blame our gov't for turning a blind eye to the issue, and not enforcing the law.

Exactly: Don't blame the thief, blame the store that failed to properly protect their merchandise!

America as a store.....would probably be Wal-Mart. Given some of our trade policies some might wonder who the thief really is.

Assume, for a second, that the store isn't simply negligent.

Assume for a second that in order to avoid having to pay taxes they invite customers to "steal" merchandise when in fact what they are really doing is having the customers pay the store "below cost" in exchange for a transaction without a paper trail.

Costs more than $2,000 to get here.

I understand the going rate is $3,000 with a 50% rebate if you act as a drug mule.

No need for cash up front, you pay as you earn in the US - subject to a nice finance charge.

Might be a bit tricky negotiating the rebate with USCIS, but you can only ask....

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

However, don't get me wrong. I agree 100% that they have no respect for our laws the second they step across our border.

I live in Los Angeles, probably the illegal alien captial of the USA. I see them hanging out in front of home depot every morning. Law enforcement does absolutely nothing. The LAPD does not, in this case, enforce federal law.

It is a violation of their rights to stop them and ask for identification.

I am not an attorney, so I fail understand how someone here illegally shares the same rights as a person her legally.

I have so many thoughts on the Mexico issue but I will keep them to myself. However, people that do bash immigrants to the US have to remember we were all immigrants at one time through family history unless you are Native American.

Enforcing the law is the key. There are laws against employing illegals and they are most likely easier to enforce than laws that aim at deporting all illegals presently in the country. Maybe it would be good to first enforce current laws and see if they actually work, and then spend tax payers' money on making new laws.

That of course doesn't mean that immigration reform isn't necessary, just that any reform focusing on the perceived ills rather than the real ills of the system is pointless because there will be no enforcement.

This retarded practice of many cities is amply called "sanctuary policy" and the cities that do it are "sanctuary cities". It is no small wonder that these "sanctuary cities" (like my hometown of Houston) are huge magnets for illegal aliens. Yet...the Federal government does little to discourage this practice and they could by cutting off the offending cities from Federal $$$ if they fail to get with the program.

In many of these cities police don't even ask the immigration status of criminals they arrest or give tickets to. Even if they are driving around without a license or insurance!!! They just get released from jail after serving time or posting bail when they should really be DEPORTED. The cops really should be able to ask the status of individuals they come into contact with in their daily duties and detain them for I.C.E. if they are in the USA illegally.

Here is a just one link I found, but you can Google up more on "sanctuary cities" if you want to learn more about this ridiculous policy and the moronic politicians that support it:

http://www.ojjpac.org/sanctuary.asp

I have been b*tching about Houston's illegal alien friendly policies for years. No wonder our city has illegals flocking here by the tens of thousands! All I can do is b*tch, write protest letters to the politicians, and vote against the jerks that support it.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995
