I dont think its that americans WANT someone to blame so they just pick someone. IMO

I think its the fact whoever throws themselves as a majority into the lime life will get the most ciritisism.

If it were the Italians, all the threads would be about italians, if it were the Africans, it would be about them, and so on.

Americans dont just wake up one morning and decide to pick on a certain race, IMO if you make such a pissy fit over something like legalizing yourself as an ILLEGAL, then yea people are going to react sourly.

I was just telling my husband the same thing. If they want to protest then okay, but don't be waving the Mexican flag. It just gives ignorant Americans something to talk about and blame. He said, yes but there are other flags being waved too. I told him the majority of them are Mexican flags and that's all the Americans see. They want to have someone to blame and it's easy to blame the Mexicans even though they aren't the only illegals here. It's like Merc said, most Americans think Guatemalans and Hondurans are Mexicans too. If they have brown skin then they must be Mexican.

NOT the DREADED Mexicans from Guatemala and Honduras??? (remember that, lol?)

Seriously, I think that there is a real backlash against other countries, cultures, religions and ethnicities going on here. What really saves us is the fact that we are so diverse along those very lines. Still though there is a lot of power in the hands of the WASPs, who as a shrinking percentage of the population are feeling VERY threatened about now. Witness the grasping of "traditional values", readiness for war and scapegoating of foreign religions, peoples etc. Check it out.

Come now, don't pretend that nobody ever associated the "illegal immigration #######" with mexicans before last week. The stereotypes and underlying disdain have been simmering for a LONG time. It's starting to boil over now. Present times are not independent of the past. Too many people refuse to even consider this notion.

I dont think anyone is feeling threatened about or over anyone. And i believe this whole thread has gone beyond what it was supossed to be and should be closed.

I also think there is just way too much disrespect from immigrants in this country i see it in everyday life, and i have seen it on this forum, immigrants come to USA and totally disrespect our culture, the way we think, or do anything. and i say that as a person who is marrying an immigrant, so call me a hater or a basher, i really do not care anymore. The fact that anyone voices their opinion on any immigrant issue becomes a hater or a basher is ignorant to ME.

The way WHO thinks? WHOSE culture? I was born here, and I do my share of bashing the bullsht about this country, and I support everyone's right to do the same. Do you mean to say that immigrants should have less freedom of thought and expression than natural-born citizens? How is exercising a constitutional right a form of disrespect?

I do think that is presumptuous; not all Americans think alike and there are many different opinions in this country regarding immigration and lots of other issues. That is one of the primary reasons why people used to come to the US: to avoid being persecuted for their opinions.

I, as an immigrant to the US, who has spend years emersing myself in US-history, culture, and current affairs consider it my duty to criticize and speak my mind whenever necessary because that is what keep America American. And I put myself in the tradition of other immigrants who have done the same in the past and have thus helped build this country.

McDonald's sucks. Wal-Mart sucks. Rednecks and the KKK suck. Prohibition sucks. Bush sucks. Monopolies and oligarchies suck. Fundies suck. SUV's and humfckingvees suck. My point is that it is my and anybody elses fcking RIGHT to speak their mind in this country, and that is one of the few and getting fewer things that does not suck here.
