i could be wrong, but as in any country, your passport will prove almost anything ESPECIALLY if you are not a citizen.

yea but as the situation is now.. I doubt the cops will be neutral with hispanics or any 'illegal looking person'

In stark contrast to the prohibited use of race profiling in criminal law enforcement, the U.S. Supreme Court stated in 1975 that "Mexican appearance" constitutes a legitimate consideration under the Fourth Amendment for stopping a person to verify his or her immigration status. (See United States v. Brignoni-Ponce, 422 U.S. 873, 886-87 (1975).) Such race profiling in immigration enforcement disproportionately burdens persons of Latin American ancestry, the vast majority of whom are U.S. citizens or lawful immigrants. The harms range from embarrassing and humiliating the persons stopped to undermining the status of all Latinos in U.S. society. Race-based immigration enforcement contributes to the fact that 90 percent of the people deported from the country are of Latin American origin (U.S. Dep't of Justice, Immigration and Naturalization Service, "INS Sets New Removals Record," Nov. 12, 1999), when only about one-half of the undocumented population is Latino. (U.S. Dep't of Justice, 1998 Statistical Yearbook of the Immigration and Naturalization Service 240 (2000) (Table I).) This helps reinforce and perpetuate the erroneous stereotype that all Latinos are "foreigners."

everything's explained here

the thing is I still think they use these racial profiling descriptions.. and well. that sucks

Dude, you so need to expat over to Somalia. At once. Dude, trust me, it's the perfect spot for ya'. Everyone does as he pleases. Nature as in "survival of the fittest" pure. No laws and other civilized shite. Who needs this ####### anyways, right? Freedom pure, dude. Oh, don't forget to pack your very own AK-47 and plenty of ammo.
What I meant to say is that I am not a freaking robot. When law conflicts with common sense, guess what? I break the d@mn law! I'm sure you've broken a few yourself if you think about it. Never go just a little over the speed limit? Jaywalk?

Yeah, I speed. I jaywalk, too. And if I get caught, I will accept the fact that I went outside the law and pay the price for it. According to the law. What I will not do is mobilize other speeders and jaywalkers to walk the streets and demand that our right to speed and jaywalk (that we don't have to begin with) be respected. That, however, would be the equivalent of the BS that the illegals are pulling these days.

Is it so overwhelming for the police departments to check the immigration status of criminals in their custody?

From my own personal experience with my wifes K1, there were times when she wasn't really documented. For example the time after her K1 status expired and until she had her EAD. The I-797c isn't proof of status. If we have cops asking for documentation, the immigration process will have to be simplified first. JMHO.

Yes, I remember when both my wife and then 18 year old (at that time) stepdaughter had nothing but I-797's and Texas state ID cards (which they could not have obtained without proper correlating documentation). They both later had Texas state driver's licenses (which they could not have obtained without proper correlating documentation) before they had EAD or Green Cards. Texas already requires many (but not all) of the documentation requirements in the yet to be implemented Real ID Act. Even in cities WITHOUT sanctuary policies they would have no problems. They certainly wouldn't be deported even if the cops mistakenly handed them over to ICE. At worst, it would be an inconvenience that would eventually be straightened out. They could always prove they were LEGALLY in the USA.

My Belarusian friend (with Green Card) and his Kazahk girlfriend with a student visa were stopped by ICE at an immigration checkpoint miles from the border outside of Corpus Christi, TX. He had his Green Card, but she left her documents at home in Houston. She was detained for several hours until her status was verified. Then she was allowed to go on her merry way after her room mate FAXed copies of her documentation.

This is a far stretch from what the illegal alien advocates want everyone to believe. They want open borders, no restrictions, and plenty of illegal alien friendly policies for their buddies. Any wonder we have 12-20 million illegal aliens in the USA? Is anyone surprised this is going on? Unfortunately these people wish to blur the huge difference between LEGAL and ILLEGAL immigrants. Cracking down on illegal aliens does not constitute anti-immigrant policies. Let's get that fact straight.

My LEGAL immigrant wife and stepdaughter have nothing to fear. They are not being targeted.

As I said...you get what you tolerate. We shouldn't be catering to illegal aliens or making it easy for them to live, work, thrive, and survive in America. Plain and simple.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

What if anyone who has ever sped more than 5 mph over the speed limit is declared a felon?

I don't hear anybody saying that the borders should just be opened up and let everyone in.......and if you don't think a backlash against immigrants of all types is possible then you are fooling yourself.

You're right, we should not cater to illegal aliens.....we should give them a legal recourse to do the jobs that American employers want to hire them for. It's pretty simple.

Then you aren't listening and I'm no fool.

And the US government has amply proved they cannot even control our own borders, enforce existing immigration laws, employment laws, or administer benefits to legal immigrants in an efficient manner.

Why would we even want to trust them to properly and efficiently administer this guestworker / amnesty scheme? It's smoke and mirrors. Nothing but a wet dream fantasy for corporate America and the ethnic lobbies.

My take on the whole debate is that we shouldn't even be discussing any guestworker plan until the border is secure and the American people are shown that the government is sincere in enforcing the law. Plain and simple. Let's put the horse in front of the cart instead of the cart in front of the horse!

Instead...all the Senate wants to do is amnesty illegal aliens with a vague promise of future enforcement. I was around to physically see the rotten fruit born of the last 1986 amnesty, broken promises, and the sick joke that got pulled on the American people by our elected representatives.

No, I'm no fool.

First of all, the US Constitution is for the protection of USCs and LAWFUL permanant residents. 4th Amendment issues (including ascertaining someone's identity) do not apply to non-citizens or those not considered by the government to be LAWFUL permanant residents. Any ILLEGAL aliens are not entitled to protection under the US Constitution, they are moreover, subject to the laws, but not the "protection" of them. For instance, like previously stated, the group of "amigos" in front of Home Depot, if there illegally, can be identified, searched, detained, and deported without the "right" to a trial by jury of their peers. (THEIR PEERS ARE ILLEGAL TOO!)

The US Census reports that by the year 2038, the majority of people in the US will speak Spanish as their first language. WOW! Most of us are going to see that in our lifetime. That means (to use Carlos Mencia's words here) "there will be more beaners in the US than whiteys."

That's why the government is scared. Not because as CNN likes to say "the terror threat from unguarded borders" exists, but because people from south of the border are going to become the majority of the US population in the very near future.

Kind of like how Bush is on TV warning us about the possible threat of Iran "developing nuclear weapons" and discussing a pre-emptive strike on their facilities while Kim Jong-Il is up there in North Korea holding his finger on the red button and jumping up and down screaming "We've got the bomb... come on... we've already got it!!!!"

The government is trying their best to make this look like it's an issue to protect the citizens of this country and the legal immigrants. What they really ought to look at is the fact that millions of brown people have "PEACEABLY assembled" for redress of grievences in various cities across the US without breaking things, burning anything down, killing each other, or causing social unrest.

When's the last time a group of "Americans" did that?
