ET-US2004, iceyspots DID say that you CAN make fun of terrorists/politicians, but not of prophets! Now this said, making cartoons about jews isn't the same as making fun of Moses. ANd making fun of Muslims isn't the same as making fun of Mohamed.. BESIDES, Muslims would never make cartoons about MOSES because HE IS THEIR PROPHET AS WELL!!

You need to compare apple with apple, not apple with orange!

I don't remember the violence when Mel Brooks portraid Moses dropping commandments 11-15 in the History of the World Part I. Maybe because Mel is a jew.

Even if our own choices sell ourselves short.
Yes, even then.
Well as I said, those cartoons don't speak for me - just as those violent thugs don't speak for a lot of muslims.

The cartoons speak for those that created them and those that published them. Whether or not I agree with their choices doesn't even matter. It's their choice to make as long as they stay within the law. Which they did.

The South Park episode would have shown mohammad handing a salmon football helmet to the Family Guy. It would have been about 2 seconds long and didn't portray mohammad in any negative light.....and they still wouldn't show it, but had no problem letting Jesus deficate on the American flag - which was a pretty strong statement by the network for their choice.

South Park is a social commentary show and they tackle issues through comedy. I don't see why muslims should be given a free pass on that one.......South Park makes fun of anything and anyone.

If it was shown, there would not have been riots here.

The protest of the cartoons is perfectly acceptable. But the violence that some have used ISN'T. If Christians/Jews/Anyone else for all that matters, chooses not to voice THEIR opinion when they feel violated, then that is THEIR problem!

ET-US2004

"And I don't need them to cartoon anyone. Their choice. Fine with me. No problem. Headscarves. Their choice. Fine with me. No problem. Up to 5 wives. Their choice. Fine with me. No problem. 5 prayers a day. Their choice. Fine with me. No problem. The prophet. Their prophet. Their choice. Fine with me. No problem.

My cartoon. My choice. Not your problem. wink.gif"

If "your cartoons" as you call it affects me, my beliefs, my pride, then it becomes MY PROBLEM! Capishe, that's just the way life goes!

there would not have been riots here at all..in fact, south park showed mohammad..as part of the super friends...and no one rioted..

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I'm sorry, you do not have the "right" to not be offended.

The Koran does not prohibit caricatures of the Prophet; muslims themselves decided early on caricatures could lead to idolatry, thus the prohibition by muslims on making caricatures of the Prophet. Muslims do not have the right to force their rules upon others, thus muslims should choose to not view caricatures of the Prophet.

Is Islam such a weak religion that a dozen cartoons threaten its very existence?

You don't control my media as I don't control yours. I understand that tyranny is very much a part of life in those necks of the wood. It ain't like that here. Maybe there's something you miss? Don't know. As long as you're roaming in an open society among free people, you'll find yourself offended from time to time. Torching and killing ain't the answer. Get over it already!

This excerpt from a report on Moussaoui's testimony may offer some hints as to why some (clearly, not all) Muslims think their taboos should apply to non-Muslims.

Moussaoui said Islam requires Muslims to be the world’s superpower as he flipped through a copy of the Quran searching for verses to support his assertion. He said one verse requires Muslims “to fight against all who believe not in Allah”.

“We have an obligation to be the superpower. You have to be subdued,” Moussaoui said.

As long as we are not too scared to satirize their Prophet the same way we satirize everyone else, we can not be subdued.
