South Park tonight 10PM EDT may show cartoon of Muhammad

Sad. I just watched it this morning. They didn't show it.

My wife made the observation that they didn't have the balls to show Mohammad but they had no objection to showing Jesus defecating all over everyone right after.

that is true...jesus is a repeating minor character on the show and there has been several shots at him..also, moses...i think they did not want their studios and assets to go up like a korean own 7/11 store in the summer time in compton

That show features characters of all types and backgrounds....in the end the message is usually tolerance actually or pointing out a different perspective. They should have aired it.....and it wasn't even anything bad! The whole point of South Park is that nobody is untouchable and they use the outrageous to prove a point.....in this case Comedy Central was the one that proved the point.

The fact that Comedy Central (like everyone else) knows that those cartoons (in one form or another) were used to incite massive violent protests raises an ethical issue that arguably justifies the censorship.

That's not to say we don't have the right to free speech, but free speech is governed by a degree of social responsibility. I might have the right to put up a billboard in South Central LA that reads "I hate n*****s", but most people would probably agree that it's a bad idea. Moreover, if the posting of that same billboard were to trigger a race riot (and in certain areas that's pretty much what would happen) - I would reasonably (and legally) be held accountable for inciting it.

Satire is great, but its only worthwhile when you know clearly what you are satirising. There's a fine line between great satire and merely perpetuating negative stereotypes.

You refuse to break their taboos because you're scared of what they might do.

Talk about perpetuating stereotypes, what kind of stereotype does appeasing them perpetuate? It perpetuates the stereotype of the scary, crazy Mussalman.
