Thanks Nina....I keep asking Larry daily - any mail?????

Dang it all - thought I had edited the first one.

Can I have our medicals and my police check done now even though I don't have anything from NVC or Montreal? Does my daughter have to have a police check done as well? She is 13.

You can certainly have your medical and police check done now! The panel physician might ask for proof of your case number from MTL before they'll allow you to schedule the medical appointment - you can always call and confirm whether they need that or not. With the police certificate, if you're getting it done at your local RCMP detachment they might also ask for a case number. Every RCMP detachment is different, but I know in Vancouver they asked for my Packet 3 before they would process one for me.

I'm not sure whether your daughter will require a police certificate, but I'm sure someone will answer that for you. :)

Police certificates are required for visa applicants over age sixteen and then, from every country a person has lived in...not province or city!

Thanks Carla.....I'm glad I don't need to get a police check for her.

I honestly would wait to get the medicals until after you've received p3. The reason being that you need it to be current (less than 1 year old) when you apply to adjust status. Since this whole process takes a long time, you may be risking a request for a whole new medical and vaccines here in the US. Which will cost you an arm and a leg. No pun intended. LOL

I think that's what I'll wind up doing cause I sure don't plan on having anymore needles

I was just thinking about your original question. Unless things have changed, the beneficiary, can call NVC, and they will notify whether they have received the application, and give you a case number as well. Think, if it's Montreal, it should start with MTL. Then, you can also check when it leaves NVC, through DHL. I think I knew this long before I got any snail mail about the application. If something is hung up (heaven forbid) I thought it would be good to have the actual case number to make enquiries at the Consulate. I do remember that calling NVC around 11 pm CST is when their lines seemed to be open. Ignore all of this if it's not an option to do anymore....

Hello Every-One,

I'm sorry to ask for reiteration:

my precious fiancé and I are waiting for the NVC to receive our approved petition.

It was approved on September 13th...a long time ago. sigh

Oops, back on track here, uhm, having read that it takes 4 months for the RCMP check (I do have to do fingerprints), can I go and make my request now? Should I email the U.S. Consulate in Montreal and ask their permission?

Or should I wait to receive the NVC notice and then the packet from the consulate?

Anyone here done an RCMP thorough check?

Thanks so much for any guidance.

Hi,

My advice would be that you have it done as soon as possible. It can take 4 months - or more. You don't need permission from the Consulate. The document is good for a year so getting it in advance shouldn't be a problem.

There was another thread about this earlier in the week: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=91890

Good luck :)
