Hello,

I am an American with a Brazilian Fiance. The USCIS has approved our case and we've already got the notice from the NVC that the case will be sent to Rio. The problem is I got the notice from the NVC Sep.1st 2007 and my Finace has still not received anything from the Embassy in Rio. I believe one problem was that the Postal workers in Brazil went on strike for three or more weeks right when we really needed them  I was wondering if anybody has any other information regarding the amount of time it should take for my Fiance to receive a package from the Embass in Rio....

Hello, I am a Brazilian fiance. About the Postal workers here, they really went on strike, but now all the service is organized. I know because I was waiting a box in a especific day and never come. The problem was the US postal service, that delay in 3 weeks to send to Brazil my box, and after arrive, even during the strike days I receive my box in one week...

Question: What day USCIS approved your petition? I try to see your timelime but is not there...

I ask because a lot of couples are saying that took one entire month for the case go from USCIS until NVC...so, maybe the problem is the US postal service...Can´t you track your case?

I have a lawyer whos handled everything up to now. mI had y lawer call to see what was gonig on and I was told that the case was in Rio but the mail delays were causing the problem. Can I call the Embassy myself..? I have the INS and Case numbers that are listed on the NVC response..

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Yes, you can call to the embassy in Rio de Janeiro.

If is possible, ask your Brazilian fiance call. I know that is better to call exactly in our 13:30. And is better to call every day until arrive, because as soon arrive there and they put in their system, you fiance can send the forms DS-230 part 1, DS-2001, two pictures (passport style showing the ears) and copy of the 4 first pages of the passport.

Good luck

Chow,

It took about 3-4 weeks before Fernanda received anything from The Consulate after the case left NVC. I emailed the Consulate in Rio and they confirmed everything had arrived. We completed all the forms on-line and printed what we needed.

Use SEDEX-10 (Guaranteed next morning by 10am) when sending your letter back to the Consulate. This is in the packet you'll receive from the Consulate. Once the Consulate receives this, they'll setup your interview date. If you have questions for the Consulate, email them. They normally respond within 1-2 days.

Pkt 3 is the instruction of what the fiance should do after the petition is approved, it is availiable on the webpage of the Embassy of U.S.A. in Brazil:

All you need to know about what you should do before the interview or for the interview, forms and all the Pkts 3 and 4 you can find on this link: http://www.embaixadaamericana.org.br/index...amp;itemmenu=58

Thanks for all the info. My finace called the Embassy today and finally got through. They said they sent a response to our lawyer but our laywer said they didn't receive it. The told my finace that they would send her the same thing they sent the lawyer and it should get to her within 7-10 days.

Somebody told me they say theat a lot to stop people from calling all of the time. I'm hoping this is not what's happening to us

Thanks again for everybody's input on all of this, I feel like we're getting close to end of this whole ordeal.

Regards,

Jeff

They will try to get people not to call much since they only receive calls from 13:30 to 15:30 and the phones are always really busy. I'd be on top of your lawyer about your info 'cus this is where you can save lots of time by sending packet 3 info as soon as you know your case has arrived in Rio.
