One last thing...Anne, are you guys moving back to Germany?

We are planning to move back to Italy sometimes this year as soon as my citizenship is completed (in case we need to come back for long period of times further down the road) and hubby gets transferred there with his new civilian job he is starting in less than 2 months when he finalLy gets out of the Air Force.

Off to bed now...

It's a good idea to try it again every couple of weeks. My oldest no longer naps (he's almost 4) but the baby is good for at least 1 2hr nap. Have you tried moving back his dinner time? We usually give our guy his dinner around 6 - and he's in bed by 7 or 7:30. Something my mom said was that sometimes if you keep them up too late they have a hard time sleeping too. Might it be he's going down too late? In Morocco I hated seeing the kids not going to sleep until 10 or 11 at night, it's way too late for them to be just going down. If Khalil wakes up during the night we usually give him a diaper change and half of a bottle and he's back out. Maybe it would be something to try - or giving him a binky? I know a lot of ppl say no to bottles in bed but at least for us he drinks it and sets it aside (i.e. he doesn't fall asleep with the bottle in his mouth). Our oldest hasn't had any problems with his teeth so if the shoe fits wear it! He also slept better after he was moved to his own room and not in the same room as us. Just some ideas :)

Thanks for the tips. He goes to bed at 8pm so maybe I should bump it back an hour and see if it works. I definitely think I should eliminate his 2pm nap. Maybe I should take him out at that time to eliminate the grumpiness.

JoelsWife: Wow you are going back to germany? I always wanted to love in Germany ever since visiting when I was 9. Where in Germany do you live?

Yey for the mommy corner.

Yes, I do my own baby food. WE use a reglular blender for everything, even meat etc.

I don't have cubes, I use a silicone muffin form for 24 little muffins and once the food is frozen, I put the cubes in freezer bags...very easy. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000DC65S/ref=no...mp;linkCode=asn

You all are more motivated than I was. I just took the lazy route and waited until she could eat finger food and weaned herself from formula at 13 or so months She went straight from the bottle to table food. I tried purees, but they were so messy and my kid hated them I basically gave up after a few half-hearted attempts. So if anyone here has a kid who hates purees, yeah, mine did too, so not alone. Your kid will eat solids, believe me. Enjoy the time they can't mash potatoes in their hair or throw spaghetti into the wall. I am becoming more thankful by the day as my daughter gets better and better with tableware. She's 21.5 months today.

Neat. The 8th was her second due date. She had three altogether. March 1, March 8, March 12, and she was born on March 19th. I had actually scheduled an induction for the 20th, but I guess she wasn't interested in being born in the spring. :P

His due date was march, 4th but he had no intention of coming out...they induced me at the first check-up post due date because my blood pressure was starting to go up with some slight proteine in my urine, and at the u/s they saw he had a double cord around his neck. They induced me on the 7th and after over 30 hours of nightmerish labour he was finally born on the 8th.

No, it was March 2nd, not March 1st. I am still asleep, I think. :P

I also didn't have the best labor experience. It was only 4.5 hours, but the last of those hours was easily the worst hour of my life and probably also my husband's. If I walked away from my labor with anything, it was a profound empathy and pity for all women who had no choice about pain relief in labor. Mine either went to fast or the midwife was a hippy idiot or probably both, at any rate, it wasn't my choice to end up an incoherent, screaming, writhing animal.

I was very drugged up esp the last few hours so I barely remember the whole thing, it is all in a fog (thankfully!). I had a really horrible experience and on top of that I came out with a nice 3rd degree tear, which basically wasn't a 4th because there was a little tiny bit of skin left (I know TMI sorry) that took them 45 minutes to repair and months to stop hurting!

But the result is what matters and I would go through this and worse to have my son again and again, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Sorry to hear you didn't have the best experience, look at the bright side...at least it didn't last 30 hours! :P

Why did you hate it? :) I was never able to make my son go to sleep earlier than 10 pm anyway, not even when he was very little, he just won't go to sleep period. Regardless if I put him to sleep at 7:30 he'd be up at 4 or 5 am and that would be a big no no for me since I don't work and don't need to be up at crack of dawn. As I said though he just likes to stay up, his schedule is pretty regular, he wakes up around 8:30 am, eats around 12:30 pm, then naps around 1:30/2:00 pm for about 2 hrs, then eats around 7:00/7:30 pm then goes to sleep around 10:30 pm. I like it like that because his dad enjoys his time with him too after work. He never had major sleeping problems other than a couple of exceptions.

I think putting kids to sleep this early is a typical thing for over here in America or at least cultural for some places while it's not for others i.e. Morocco. In Italy for example we do not have dinner before 7:30/8:00 pm which is when most parents are back from work so kids cannot possibly go to sleep that early like most do here, most won't be in bed before 9:30/10 pm. I heard in Spain it's even later than that, I actually saw it with my own 2 eyes when I was there in the past, families would hang out until very very late, simply because their day usually starts a lot later in the morning. And everyone is just fine believe it or not ;) I don't think there's one rule that works better than others, it is just different culture and different habits, therefore different routines. The key is to not have your infant/toddler become overtired and have them have enough hours of rest. :star:

I hated seeing it because the kids were obviously exhausted, crying and whiny. The reason they were up was to suit their parents social lives and while that's important who the heck wants to socialize around babies who are so upset? I guess it's one thing if they're use to it but you could see it in these kids, as well as their older brothers and sisters who were under 10 and staying up until midnight or later and then having to get up for school by 8am in the morning. Just doesn't make sense to me. Kids need to sleep!

I agree. If Eman refused to go to sleep at a certain time there is no way I would force him. But if he is clearly exhausted and whining then he definitely needs to go down. Actually, that is how I know it's time for him to go down. He starts that pre-cry noise and follows me around and isn't a happy camper no matter what distractions I try.

Joel'sWife: I visited Frankfurt, Kassel (I think that's how you spell it), and Hamburg. I wish I could move there...

I was assuming Morocco was more like the case with my son or in my homecountry...if they needed to wake up early in the morning to go to school/day care or whatnot then yes, they should be in bed earlier. Of course kids need to sleep...I stated it in the end of my post, I thought it was kinda clear in what I was trying to say. Maybe it wasn't....

Also wanted to add that in Italy they still wouldn't go to sleep earlier than 9:30 or so....because of the different schedules, then again children's day starts later than it usually does around here (schools/day cares are geographically closer -usually few minutes walking distance - and start later in the morning). My son won't fall asleep earlier than when he goes down which is as I said around 10:00/10:30, but he always gets at least good 10-11 hours of sleep every night + his afternoon nap. He's rested and content, then again I do not work so I know I do not need him up early. :)
