What's amusing me about this is that the difference between this "home dental treatment" and a dentist's office is, well, who's handling the pliers. Tooth extraction can't conceivably have changed much since Caesar crossed the Rubicon.

And to think - a person has to go to a hospital these days to be trepanned. How scandalous

Secretly, the Brits like to make out that the NHS is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Its all clever marketing however. We really do all of our minor surgeries at home with craft knives and box cutters, and get all our prescription medications from the vet ;)

Seriously though.... Why didn't those people just go and see the emergency dentist at the hospital??? It costs £15

I can't afford to go to the dentist anymore either as the dentist that I have used since the age of 5, suddenly decided that he wasn't going to have NHS patients anymore and went private. The prices that they charge are absolutely ridiculous.

I had severe problems with my wisdom teeth and went to the hospital... As I said. All it cost was £15 and the extractions which were done in hospital too were free.

Or the Atlantic! C. had to have an abscessed tooth pulled three weeks ago. You guessed it: they yanked it out with pliers. It was high technology. They even had littler pliers to yank out the tiny bits after the tooth shattered.

Difference between us and Caesar's dentist: better painkillers. And a $400 bill.

I'm sure that just as many Americans, if not more (proportionally), pull out their own teeth. In fact, I think I saw some of these self-dentists at the bowling alley on Saturday.
