I am working on my singles certificate. I went out and got certified copies of my divorce. I want to take photo copies of the important page that has the decree. I then will take and show the original and these photo copies to get notarized. I just want to send this one page and the other needed paperwork proving I am single to the Chinese Consulate. Is this ok? I don't want to send to entire divorce papers and have them know everything about it.

They only need the page with the vital statistics. It will need to show full names and dates. They don't need to see your property settlement or custody arrangements. However, you will need to follow all the instructions on the website. There are multiple steps and certifications before taking the papers to the Consulate.

The easy but more expensive way to get the Affidavit of Single Status is to use VisaRite.

I recommend calling them on the phone. They know exactly what to do and will walk you through it. They handle the Secretary of State part for and all notarizations.

Again, the really easy way (if your itinerary allows) is to take your passport, divorce decree and copy of fiance's Chinese ID card to the Consulate in Guangzhou and give them $30 for a Certificate of Marriageability. Send an email to the Consulate from their website for current details.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

pushbrk,

Thank you for the information. I checked out the VisaRite and the cost. I decided to go with them due to comparing my cost of running around to their cost. I had to do some document gathering then sent everything to them. They are very friendly on the phone and they took care of getting my needed document. What I liked about VisaRite was they sent me a notice of receiving my packet and then a notice of it getting authenicated and being shipped back to me. Very good service and now the two of us are very happy and looking forward to the up and coming events in December!

Thanks Much!
