Hello,

I have a couple questions and I would really appreciate your feedback (people can answer whatever questions they know answers to).

Is there any way to find out if your 485 has been transferred to my local district office yet or not? Does the CIS bother updating your case online and/or sending an email? If not, do the reps at the toll free number give that info?

Once you receive an interview notice, is it bad/risky to request a change if you are overseas? How easy is it?

Any feedback on any or all of these questions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

You wont usually be able to find out if it has been transferred but it is normally done within a week or two before your interview. You do not get case updates onthis unless your file is transferred to california. The reps on the mis-information line see what you see online.

It has been risky and a pain for some people on here to re-schedule their appointment. Some have been denied for not going and it turned into a nightmare for them as they had to prove that it is USCIS fault and not theirs that they did not go. Basically time consuming and with senatorial help etc it gets fixed but the general consensus on here is do not miss your AOS appointment.

Usually they update the case status online (and send an email) if the case has been transfered to a Service Center, but there is no update if it has been transferred to your local office. Usually we find out by getting an interview letter in the mail.

I'm not sure if the reps at the toll free number have that info or not, you could try though.

I have heard of interview dates successfully changed to a later date, just submit the request in writing as soon as possible.
