I wonder where they come up with the names for these restaurants/pubs? I haven't been to this one myself yet but a friend recently pointed out that there is this great "old European style pub" in DC... apparently very authentic with a biergarten atmosphere. Since it was the same person who recommended the restaurant that messed up my Schnitzel so badly I don't think the words "authentic" and "great" would apply in this case either...

:help:http://www.pourhouse-dc.com/shaus.php :help:

OMG, is this for real?!?

(just for the non-German speakers here: "Scheissehaus", roughly translates to "s-h-i-t house" in English, the terminology is all wrong btw)

Not the type of restaurant I would like to eat or drink at - especially with that name....

That is really crazy.........I would not want to eat there either.

...by the way I hate how they always represent Germany in a Bavarian way, I am from the North, so Germany does not look like Bavaria everywhere!!...

Ain't that the fcuking truth. Bavaria ain't really Germany to begin with. Just like Texas ain't really America. ;)

Berlin here. Haven't been in awhile but I think I'll have an opportunity to swing by for a long weekend in December. Looks like I'll be in Dublin on business for a few days. It's only two hours or so worth a flight from Dublin to Berlin and Aerlingus offers it for like $75.00. I don't think I can pass that up.

It'll be a hearty Eisbein for me. I've been craving that for years...

..........they are opening themselves up to a lawsuit if your experience causes you further difficulty in your immigration process.

"further difficulty" would be quite the euphemism! Deportation is the normal penalty.

Deportation takes years. "Further difficulty" would first include delays in processing the N-400, *then* denial of the N-400, *then* the beginning of rescission proceedings, *then* rescission hearings including appeals, *then* the beginning of initiation of removal proceedings, *then* removal hearings, *then* an offer of voluntary departure, *then* more removal hearings and appeals, and in two or three years, it may actually include actual removal.

In other words, when they say "further difficulty" there are about a dozen steps between there and actually leaving the country.

Borscht is Russian. Very good, by the way. Had some of that in Saint Pertersburg back when it was still Leningrad.

Cabbage rolls - Kohlrouladen - on the other hand are quite German indeed.

I don't know of any other naturalized Germans with African spouses or SO's on VJ. I think it's not that common a combination.

I'm hungry now.

P was telling me to prepare for their Christmas dinner tradition: schnitzel with eggs on top? There's a name for it but I forgot it. The picture looks a bit strange, but I'll try any food once (except veal...draw the line there). Anyone know what that's called?

As for the Bavaria thing, I imagine it's because Lederhosen makes for great show. And even though my first experience with Germany was Nuernberg, there's so so so much more to it. My SO is from Baden-Wuerttemberg which is still in the South, but very different from Bavaria. I suppose like any country, it's a shame people who have never been there only see one aspect as stereotypical.

Hamburger Schnitzel. You can use pork to make it. It's just as good.

We always had goose for Christmas. My grandparents on my father's side raised several geese every year. Grandpa slaughtered them right before Christmas and sent them out to all his kids families. A great family tradition. It ended when grandpa passed way too soon.

Dad still makes the goose for Christmas, though. Just not a home-raised one.
