German Restaurant experience

So, a couple of friends and I went out to have a late lunch at this German joint today. Gotta hand it to them: They have an awesome selection of draught and bottled beer. We enjoyed a Koenig Ludwig Hefeweizen - just the right brew for a late summer day in Florida. The menu looked somewhat suspicious to me but I thought that I'll never know unless I try. So we ordered various foods and I must say that I was outright embarrassed. That wasn't German. It was aweful. My friends (all Brazilian, btw., and quite familiar with German food) seemed to think that it was alright. So, now I gotta cook up some real, actual German cuisine and have them come over one of the next weekends. I just can't let that sit on me or my country. To call this nutrition "German food" is quite offensive, really. And no, I am not surprised. I have not yet come across a decent German restaurant in the US with the exception of some place out in Western Ohio - St. Marys, if memory serves correctly.

Well if you're ever in Oregon, there is a wonderful German restaurant called "The Rheinlander"

My Dad is Bavarian, and I've been to germany many times....this food is VERY good and very authentic.

"We are the real countries,

Not the boundaries drawn on maps,

With the names of powerful men.

That's all I've wanted -

To walk in such a place with you,

On an earth without maps."

I guess that's what I should have had. Can't really mess that up much. I had the Rinderrouladen instead and those were just aweful. Beats me why they put something on the menu that they have no cue how to properly prepare. But then, most customers probably would think they just had something good.

I loved the Berghoff Restaurant in Chicago. Too bad it's not open anymore.

They were just tasteless and the meat was sill somewhat tough. The gravy wasn't made of the juice the Rouladen cooked in and there was this huge chunk of onion in the center that was still crispy. The meat was fully cooked, though. Almost as if they put them together using boiled - or even microwaved - beef. They were just wrong on so many levels.
