Hello everyone,

I hope all is well! Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been so tired since I returned to the states last Monday. Being with my darling again was wonderful and I miss him so much. *sigh* God willing, he'll be here before Christmas! He's going to go visit his family in Nigeria first. In the meantime, I have to get this house ready for him.

The interview was very hard. First, we almost got into a car accident on the way to the embassy. This idiot came out of nowhere and Kesso swerved to keep from hitting him and almost hit the curb. We arrived at the embassy at approx 12:30 and were told by security to "come back because it wasn't 2 o'clock". So we went for a little drive and the clutch starting making a weird noise. We were worried the truck was going to break down! Thank the Lord, we made it back to the embassy safely around 1:45 and still weren't let in until almost 2:10. Kesso wasn't called in until around 4:05. We walked in together and the interviewer, without asking who I was, asked me to step "completely outside". I returned to the large waiting room and prayed and waited.

The interviewer, who my fiance says is named Yvonne Clark, grilled him for about 30 mins before he came to the door and gestured for me to come in. After the interview, he told me she asked him a lot of questions like how we met, did I have children, what I did for a living, did I like to travel, his prior relationships, why he wanted to marry me, what schools I went to, why did he come to Senegal, describe his job, etc.

Anyway, when I stepped up to the window, she asked my fiance to step outside. She then proceeded to tell me that my coming to the interview didn't guarantee that his visa will be granted, she had to ask me some questions, I may not like the questions, etc. Then she told me that my fiance didn't seem to know a lot about me. I became scared. I asked what didn't he know? Before I knew it, I began to cry. I told her I wasn't trying to gain her sympathy, it had just been a very hard year. She said she understood and that tears didn't affect her, as she's seen many things in her line of work.

She asked a few questions about me: where I work and what do I do, name some of the places I've traveled to, do I have any children, ever been married, how we met, why I came all the way to Africa to find a man. She warned me about scams involving foreigners using US citizens to get to the states. I told her I was aware of these scams and didn't feel that my fiance would ever do that to me. She asked if he had been married, had children, what he did for a living, where he lived, why he was living in Senegal, I think she also asked if he had ever been to the states. Meanwhile, I continued to cry.

The interviewer began looking through the documents in our file, complained about a couple of them, stating they weren't what she needed. Then she said she needed my tax returns from the last 3 years. I told her that the I-134 form doesn't request tax returns and those documents were back in the states and I would have brought them had I known they would be requested now. I told her that my fiance had e-mailed the embassy over a month before the interview asking if he needed to bring any additional documents and that they never even responded to his e-mail. She said she couldn't read the copy of his birth cert that was in our file and that she needed his Nigerian police report, not the declaration from the Nigerian embassy. I begged to be allowed to call my fiance back in because he had the documents which she had complained about.

She allowed me to call Kesso in and he submitted the requested documents. He was very concerned that I was crying. The interviewer asked a few more questions and added a couple more comments like would my fiance marry me and then divorce me in two days. Finally, she said that she's recommending the visa. Kesso and I kissed and embraced and my sad tears turned into tears of joy! Her computer had actually shut down, so she said that she would have to update our file as soon as it came back up. She told Kesso that he could pick up his visa on Thursday "as long as nothing came up within the next two days". She kept his passport and handed him an orange ticket.

For a moment there, I really thought our case would be delayed again, but God prevailed! Not that I ever had any doubt, but I know that if it's in God's will, your prayers will be granted. I'm 99% sure that our case would have been placed back in AP had I not been there. Although the interviewer was very tough, I think deep down she had a good heart and could see that Kesso and I are genuinely in love. She's west indian and told me that she met her husband in Africa.

I want to thank everyone again for your support, prayers, and well wishes. We're so blessed to have found this site. I wish everyone all the best on your visa journeys and your lives together. Remember, when you put God first and stand together, you can accomplish almost anything!

God bless,

Shanon :D(L)

Congratulation Shanon. You trully deserve praise for your courage and perceverance.

What a process??? But, all is well that ends well. I wish you and your future husband all the happiness and love that your hearts can hold....

Your account of the interview has strenthened my belief that it is quite advisable for the USC to attend the interview. Interesting that the interviewer actually advised you that it does not garantee approval. Seems to me that the absence of the USC certainly garantees AP, AR & even denial... Is it just me or do we have a scenario here of presumed fraud, until proven innocent? What a shame...

Thank you everyone! My fiance should be here before Christmas! :dancing: He's going to Nigeria to visit his family and friends for a couple weeks before he comes to the US. He hasn't been back since he moved to Senegal four years ago. I can hardly wait until it's my turn to pick him up from the airport. In the meantime...I have lots of work to do! :hehe:
