I started smoking at 12 (I really started smoking when I was 14, long story) and in the beginning of 2000 I quit (cold turkey, non-smoker bf helped). I started smoking again in the end of 2003 (almost 3 years not smoking) and then last year I tried again cold turkey before my interview for 2 successful months, then Charles came to Brazil, I came here, etc etc I started again.

Then a few months ago this doctor gave me Welbutrin but I didn't make the decision to quit, I didn't try, and obviously, the med doesn't magically make you stop if you don't do anything about it.

Now, by next Sat I will definitely be a non-smoker forever, hopefully.

Woot!! Way to go!!! Chantix is great stuff. I couldn't have stopped without it. My doctor told me to slowly build up with the medicine and stop smoking when I was taking 2 1mg pills a day. He said to not try to stop until then. Did yours tell you that?

Yes she told me to set a date to stop and then start taking it 7 days before the date set. So I started taking Saturday and I smoked less this weekend but I still smoked some (I knew it would be difficult to quit on a weekend).

Today I woke up and I usually drink water and have a cig first thing and then I go to the bathroom. But I decided to try not to have any, so I didn't smoke in the morning, I didn't bring cigs to work and I will make some changes at home so I won't be tempted (hubby won't be smoking inside anymore, the ashtrays will be gone, no more smell, less temptation).

Contrary to popular opinion Chantix DOES have some severe side effects for some. They are called "Chantix-dreams".

NYTimes Article

Just be wary. ;)

I'll read about that. I know medicine always have side effects, but my main worry was taking again something like welbutrin that really messes with you, you know? My doctor told me about 2 side effects that I was worried the most that was constipation and the weird dreams, because I already have really really weird dreams almost every night, I'm used to, so I wonder if it's even possible to get weirder :P

my doctor prescribed me Chantrix yesterday too, i cant afford it tho and my insurance doesnt cover it

Compare the cost of Chantix to the monthly cost of cigarettes. The pills are cheaper than the smokes! I went through a carton a week at $40 per. Thats $160/month for the smokes. I am not sure what the full price of Chantix is since my insurance covers all but $30/month but I would assume it's less than $160.

Gary, Just wondering.. How many packs are in a cartoon. I don't smoke so I never need to buy any

Yogi

10 packs in a carton, and unless gary's is gold plated, cig cartons for marlboro which i smoke is 26.00 a carton, not 40.00.

and they want it in a full pay, not like cigs you can pay weekly

You can doing it Nessa! You're so beautiful and cigarettes ruin more than your lungs! Trust me, my english tutor back in Brasil looked much older than she was, she was the type to light one cigarette at the end of another and she was ALWAYS smoking. Her skin and teeth were severely compromised and she smelled like ashtray ALL the time.

I was lucky to quit before I got a serious addiction to it, stopped when I was 22.

thanks Laura. I haven't been smoking much for years already, nothing compared to what I used to smoke when I was younger (a pack of red Marlboro a day, for the past few years it's like 5 light marlboro a day). And you're right, cigarettes have no benefits at all. It's 100% bad. Bad for your skin, bad for your teeth, bad for your lungs, bad for your body, bad for your pocket, it's all bad.

How's the day goin, Nessa?

she just got back from shopping. a better question would be how bad is the balance on the credit card

I must be lucky. My fiancee doesn't really like shopping. :P

I needed boots for the winter, but I don't like shopping either, I have no patience (That doesn't mean I don't like to have things :P , I just don't like having to try them on and go from store to store looking for them)

That's exactly it, Nessa!! That's what my fiancee told me!

She said she gets tired of having to try everything on since designers make everything so different. Apparently, there's no standard when it comes to sizing in women's clothing. I never knew this (I don't shop in that area), so my fiancee said that with one designer she could be such-and-such size and with another designer, a completely different size. There's virtually no such thing as just "grabbing something and buying it" like there is with men's clothing.

exactly. Just for you to have an idea, I can fit in pants size 0 in some store and in others a sizde 4 looks ok, even though my size is really 2.

So when I'm shopping I usually get 2 sizes to try on when it comes to tops, jackets, etc, usually S and M, pants I usually try size 2 and it works for me.

It depends where you are! Where I am going to be living in the US a carton of Marlboro is over $40.00!

A great way for women to quit smoking is to understand that there is an "oral fixation" part to the habit. It's not all about the nicotine. Therefore, if a woman really wishes to stop for good, she needs to find a substitute for that cigarette.

The best way to find a good substitute is by asking her boyfriend or husband if he knows of anything she could place between her lips and in her mouth. He may have a few ideas. Since she'll be craving a cigarette at that moment, listen to him!

ANY TIME she feels the need for a cigarette between her lips, she should make use of that substitute. This method is guaranteed to make her forget about wanting a cigarette!
