I just got Luz and I new cell phone from Sprint. The Katana II. It's a very nice phone and the first one I had that could use sampled ring tones. I found a great web site that explains how to make your own ring tones and upload them to my phone for free and I have been having a lot of fun with it.

On a lark I tried to upload a ring tone in MP3 format rather than the QCP format that the web site calls for. It went to the phone OK but I got a message that said I needed to install MP3 drivers on the phone before it will work. I have been to the sprint web site and to the sprint store looking for the drivers without luck. Does anyone know where I can get these drivers?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

I checked it out. Didn't see anything about MP3 drivers for my phone. The full model number for my phone is a Sony SCP-6650 . If anyone has any ideas I would sure appreciate it.

it's Sanyo.. not Sony.. for added by u ringtones, SPrint makes it very hard.. unless it's a phone with a memory card (katana is not).. Sprint encourages you to only use the ringtones on their website (meaning you have to pay for all of them) by not selling you the cables and driver -usually on a cd-.. the best way is to go to a cellphone shop and look for the cable (usb to katana connector) which usually has the cd with the drivers, they're expensive though..

they don't like you uploading stuff for free lol.. so they make it hard.. it can be done, but takes time

I have the cable already. The nice lady at the Sprint store gave me one.

If you bought an unlocked phone, its likely it would already have the software needed for mp3s. But since you bought a phone locked to a provider, its usually customized by the provider to keep the dough coming in. So instead of being able to add your own ring tones, you are forced to pay your provider to send them to you.

You may be able to find and upgrade to a non-sprint firmware, but that is not a process for everyone. Screw it up, and you have a expensive paperweight.

but again Gary, Sprint usually don't like their customers uploading stuff for free, specially ringtones (mp3 songs is different).. u can upload mp3 ringtones by yourself but, you have to check if the driver is available, that phone is relatively new, and probly the driver is not available out there..

I'd try first to call tech support to see if they can update your firmware, if that doesn't work, then you have to wait for the driver to become public, or for sale somewhere, so you can upload your own stuff.. CDMA phones are very particular

I have already made and uploaded my own ringtones in the QCP format. Some of them sound good but others don't. I don't like the idea of buying a ring tone from Sprint and have it expire in 90 days. In reality I am only renting it. Besides, they don't have the songs I want. I am really just fiddling with it to see what is possible.

The phone recognises MP3 ring tones because when I tried to upload it I got a message that I needed a MP3 driver to make it work. So there must be something out there that will work.
