The Nobel Peace Prize isn't canonization, just recognition of an achievement or even effort. Good for him.

I love how the naysayers are about, even against such an honor. Grasping at straws much? I'm pretty sure the Nobel Committee has done their research before awarding their prize....

Oh PLEASE.

He is a former VP of the US who also won 2 Oscars, an Emmy & a Nobel Peace Prize. And created an agency for Climate Protection. Pretty freaking amazing.

"He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted," said Ole Danbolt Mjos, chairman of the Nobel committee.

He doesn't practice what he preaches. His mansion wastes massive amounts of resources. He didn't start making it green until he was caught not being green. I wouldn't vote for him if he was a dictator.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

And if we're talking Mother Theresa, are we talking about the same nun who collected millions of dollars that sits in a fund rather than helps the poor?

It's pretty sad that an American (with the UN) won a Nobel Peace Prize (patriotism, anyone?) yet all anyone can do is make this thread become is another Dem vs. Rep pi$$ing match.

oh i got it now. patriotism by republicans = bad, patriotism by democrats = good. thanks for clearing that up.

There is no patriotism here, Charles. That is the point.

Mother Teresa prefers providence to planning, and the very strictest economy is always enforced - much to the detriment of the patient's interests. It is interesting to note that, despite the enormous sums involved ($50 million remains in a cheque account in the Bronx), needles are used over and over again, and are rinsed under the cold water tap. The nuns' answer to "why are you not boiling water and sterilizing your needles?" was simple: "There's no point. There's no time." Perhaps the patients take too long to die, and hastening death saves money. Cynical as that may be, Mother Teresa's global income is more than enough to equip several first class clinics like some of the finest in the West that she herself has checked into.

You didn't know that, Charles? It's in the Democratic Party Guidebook. Chapter 2, Section 7, Paragraph 8, Line 3: "When patriotism is shown by the 'bigoted and wicked ones' (aka Republicans), it is never anything but wrong and shameful, and above all, an embarassment to America; however, if patriotism is shown by the 'providers of hope and fairness' (aka Democrats), then patriotism is always the proper way to go, since it will show America's true spirit (i.e. whatever we tell the people it should be)." :star:
