You didn't know that, Charles? It's in the Democratic Party Guidebook. Chapter 2, Section 7, Paragraph 8, Line 3: "When patriotism is shown by the 'bigoted and wicked ones' (aka Republicans), it is never anything but wrong and shameful, and above all, an embarassment to America; however, if patriotism is shown by the 'providers of hope and fairness' (aka Democrats), then patriotism is always the proper way to go, since it will show America's true spirit (i.e. whatever we tell the people it should be)."
