Bringing vehicle across Canadian Border into United States?

Hello Everyone,

My fiance, wants to drive his vehicle from Canada to the United States once his visa is approved. The problem is that his vehicle is old. 1987 Nissan pick Up truck :)

He knows that it will not pass an emissions test, and is worried that he might not be able to get it tagged in the United States because of it.

Would the border patrol still allow him to cross with his vehicle regardless of the shape it is in? We have also heard that they could possible allow him to cross with the stipulation that he could only drive it in the U.S. for a certain length of time. Does anyone know if this is true? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Steph and Muz

Here's a link that might assist you. You'll need a letter of compliance from the car manufacturer.

stephandmuz by the sounds of his car  I highly doubt they're going to allow him to bring it over. haha

Best to read up on this. Lots of Canadians (because we're so close) chose this route. Or, they sell their car.

Hope this helps.
