I am curious as to when and how much a congressional office can help with moving a K-3 petition along. I have some connections in congressional offices that would be willing to call or write on my behalf if necessary, but I want to make sure it would do any good so as to not waste their time and effort.

I have heard that a call or letter from a congressional office can be helpful if a consulate/embassy is causing problems or delays with an application, but is there any other point in the USCIS process where they can help expedite things?

I dont think there is anything they can do. I have read that involving them just makes it take longer because of the extra communincation ect needed.

In my case I needed the assistance of a U S senator. I sent all the documents to them & to this day I have heard zero. It didnt help me at all. I did not even get a phone call nor the letter that they said would come.

I doubt a call form a congressmen when there is no real problem will have any affect at all.

They can sometimes help get things moving when there's been a SNAFU, but they can't do a thing to help when a case is processing normally.

A Warning to Green Card Holders About Voting

I can only tell you of my experience with my congressman over my city. When I filed I contacted my congressman first off and they asked for a copy of my petition and said they would not be able to help me unless things got delayed they could make inquiries.

Well after 4 months of not hearing anything about my petition I contacted my congreeman again and asked them to make an inquiry all I know is that they did something and both my petitions my I-130 and I-129F were approved a week later.

I think that is what they are there for and that's why we vote for them to help us in our time of need.

I don't know what else they can do after your case is sent to NVC but I feel as though anything would help and it couldn't hurt and hey something good might come out of it! I was happy and appreciative.

Good Luck on Your Journey!

They did something.....

Both your petitions were approved a week later.

I know you're not connecting the two events in a cause and effect manner but some others may read this and do so. After all, "Coincidental Correlation" is the most common logical fallacy. As of now, it's quite likely that your petitions were processed normally. Most seem to take a little over 4 months now, just like yours did.

If there actually is or was a hang-up of some sort or a petition got stuck on the bottom of some pile, a congressional inquiry can indeed get things moving again.

Rather than get hung up in the rhetoric about common logical fallacies, one thing to understand is that if you can if fact get a "congressional inquiry" it in all likelhood will result in your file getting adjudicated (approved, denied or RFE). This situation was alluded to by a former USCIS adjudicator in his very first posting on this board. He indicated that the USCIS is required to respond within x amount of days and typically what they do rather than answer to the congressperson as to why it has not been processed they just "do it".

YMMV

Of course, and that may be exactly what did happen in this case but it is a mistake (due to logical fallacy) to conclude that there was indeed a cause and effect. It is an extremely common mistake and I darn well felt like pointing it out.

I had read that former adjudicator's post and was curious about other people's experiences.

I am sure my contacts would be willing to initiate an inquiry. Since I my NOA1 for the I-129F was just on 8/30, it seems very premature at this point. However, if I don't see movement by early December, I will consider using this option.

Thanks for the feedback.

A "congressional inquiry" may not be all that it appears to be... I know of one member who is convinced that because he got his congressperson to make an inquiry that it hurt him later on. Most petitioner's proceed with reasonable speed right to and through NVC. His file was delayed for several weeks coming out of CSC and then was hung up at NVC for an additional 5 weeks. I don't subscribe to his views and I certainly don't want to be accused of perpetuating a fallacy, but he is certainly convinced it was USCIS/NVC "payback".

YMMV
