Well yesterday i had my biometrics at 9 and was out within 20 minutes.

So then we went over to the district office so i could ask for an I-551 stamp as also no NOA 1 had even come yet.

After 4 hours of waiting, FINALLY get called over. I asked for it, she said "no i cant give it to you, unless you give me your expired greencard, i'll destroy it, and put that note inside your passport along with the stamp"

I said "no, i wouldn't like that, i'd like to keep the expired card, and get an I-551 stamp as i have no other I.D. except the expired green card and no NOA1 has come in".

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING.

She begins to email directly the VSC and asks writes to them to "look at my case immediately and ajudicate it straight away completely".

And i mentioned that it'd only got sent about a month ago. She replied "it doesnt worry her nor them."

Which kinda didnt surprise me since she's running the show there.

So this is the district manager of the district office, so im thinking that shes got weight in what she said in her email, which she wrote it right in front of me.

So who knows.......maybe i could get approved a little quicker due to not being able to get an I-551 stamp and no NOA1.... i already ahd my biometrics done, so thats one things less to do right???

I guess all they have to do now is open up the case, look at it and do whatever they'll do with it (hopefully approve it)

Because usually, not in all cases, they are more-than-willing to give an I-551 stamp, however i didnt want to give up my card just in case the service center asks for it back with the purple/blue slip which they started doing not so long ago.

What do you guys all think???

dude... get in line! Why should VSC suddenly pull your case to the top of their stack of paper just because you are unwilling to give up your expired greencard? Guess what they have to do with all these other cases that are waiting to be processed: they just need to open them up and look at them and approve them. Sorry, your post annoys me...

Hmmm...I have to agree...seems kind of unfair that just because you won't give your card up because you have no other ID (just a thought...you can go to DMV and get a non Drivers license ID.) Anyway...I guess if it works for you.....definitely more power to you.

passport is id. Can also go get a state issued photo id. They do issue photo id's according to the Puerto Rican Federal Affairs administration...

Isnt your student id card identification??

It is. My wife entered the country with just the stamp.

well, remember, some service centers have been asking for the green cards back along with a slip (forgot which colour), and yes a stamp is handy, however, she also explained aswell that i could get caught in-between because if the service center does ask for it back physically and its been destroyed, even though there is a stamp, i was told they would then in turn have to call the district office, confirm it, and all that.

And no, Puerto Rico DOESN'T issue state I.D.'s, they only issue you a voting card, and for that, you have to be a U.S. citizen to receive that.

Yes i do agree, a drivers licence is good. just waiting for the NOA 1 to come in.

And sorry, i guess i shouldn't have told my experience because i see i've annoyed some people by what she did for me, but hey, some get lucky, some don't, its nothing i asked for, she was just in a good mood.

Sorry you feel that way, as said, it was luck, the reason she asked for it, was that no NOA1 has come in, its been a month, and i am travelling, remember, if its at the officers discretion 'how' they want to help, henceforth its called a service center right??

it's funny, as much as we all b..###(including me) about everyone who's getting approved before time, we all would love to be in that lucky spot. i wouldn't mind. i would love to get approved after just couple of months. it's not that i don't care about others, but it's my life, it's my journey and as much as don't think it would be fair for all the others, i would take that approval and could care less what everyone else think.

we should all be happy for each other, no matter what. really, if aussies experience annoys anyone, they should suck it up and hope they are the next to get approved!

peace!

well, in that case I would have taken the stamp in the passport  now you still have no NOA and no stamp and only the hope that maybe you will get approved soon. sorry, seems like I don't get it...

Its hardly fair to get upset with Aussie Lad, its the system which is screwed up! Ive been waiting since January for NSC to get off their asses and lots of people are getting approved after their cases have been forwarded to CSC. Ah well.
