All, I am getting my wife’s K-3 package ready for her interview at the Chennai, Consulate. I am putting together a list of documents that will be submitted to the VFS in Chennai and Originals at the interview. Please let me know if I have missed anything. I am so anxious; some one double checking with a cool, calm mind would reassure me.

Packaged and Ready to go:

1. DS-156 Completed for Applicant. Two copies with the Bar Code on them; I did them online and printed off.

2. DS-230 Completed for Applicant.

3. I-134 Completed, Notarized and attached the following:

a. Job Letter.

b. 2006 Tax Return.

c. 2 Months Pay Stubs.

4. Marriage Certificate Copy.

5. Petitioner Passport and Naturalization Certificate Copy.

6. Applicant Passport Photocopy.

1. Medical Certificate.

2. Police Certificate from District Police Station.

3. Police Certificate from Regional Passport Office.

I'm not sure about the DS-230? Because I know DS-230 are for those on CR-1 or IR-1 visa applicants? And DS-156 and DS-157 are for the K-visas? (Or maybe I'm mistaken?) Also, If you also have other forms of communications like e-mals, letters/cards that you can include as proof of relationship.

Though we did K1, we (and others) gve the DSA-230 too, and it was accepted. I say the more paperwork, the better!

What about the Letter of Intent? (Is that necessary for K3 too?)

No, remember that this is a letter of intent to marry, and when filing for K-3, the US Citizen and the foreign person are already married.

I'd include:

  • Copy of the entire I-129f and I-130 package (the one you sent when you filed)
  • Copy of NOA2
Do K-3 filers need to bring documents to prove a bonafide marriage during the interview or this only when filing? I'd include documents to prove that during the interview just in case. Edited by eric_and_teresa

DS-156 and DS-157 are required for some countries in addition to the DS-230 form. Extra security.
