When I sent in my application for my i-485/AOS, I had my maiden last name and did not realize it might be so hard to make a change after you get a green card. Therefore, I wanted to know if there are any ladies who had their last name changed at the AOS interview to their new married last name.

I have read and one of the customer service reps at USCIS said it would be possible to do at the AOS interview. I just wanted to make sure I do not have to send any paperwork beforehand and how hard this change would be. Does the last name change make you get the green card later after the interview? All experiences, information are much appreciated.

I'm not sure if it's possible to change your name at the AOS interview or not. I would make sure and take a certified copy of your marriage certificate just in case it is possible.

You will not receive your GC at the AOS interview. It is mailed to you after you are approved at the interview.

It's important for everyone sending in their I-485 (or I-765 or I-131) applications after marriage to make sure they use the name on the applications that they will be using legally after their marriage, whether that be their maiden name or their new married name.

I have the same question, as I recently got a CR-1 visa as well and the green card is in my maiden name. I assumed that because my Canadian passport has my maiden name, all our forms we submitted had to be in my maiden name. I was hoping that when I do the AOS in a year and a bit I would get them to use my married name.

I have my soc. sec. card with my maiden and married name hyphenated as well as my drivers licence, so maybe that will make the process easier???

I didn't feel like paying the extra approx $600 to apply for a new g.c. for the name change.

You won't do AOS if you came in on a CR-1. You'll do I-751, removal of conditions. AOS is going from non-immigrant to immigrant. You're already an immigrant.

Yes it is possible. No additional filing is required. Bring all supporting eveidence to your interview. I believe the change is discretionary with the Immigration Officer and they are not required to do it, although they often do.

Does the last name change make you get the green card later after the interview?

No.
