Jimmy Carter is an idiot. He isn't in the loop any more and has no more information than anyone else.
As a former Prez, I think he PROBABLY has a damn good grasp of what we do & don't do Gary...

He will face a lot of flack by making this public, you don't think he thought about that before he spoke?

And then people wonder why so many call the left anti-American. This sort of ####### does not help America's reputation overseas.

Actually, being able to take critical look in the mirror and openly say what you see (or think you see) is one of the things that people like about America. There are many countries in the word where such thing would land you in jail. We and the rest of the free world are typically admired for our freedom of speech.

If speaking the truth harms America's reputation overseas, then the solution isn't to lie, but to fix the problem.

People overseas don't view it as open honesty though. To them these incidents reinforce their view of who do these guys think they are to teach us about honesty and democracy, when they are so corrupt.

I think a lot of people here forget America is judged, scrutinized and condemned as a whole and not along political lines. For example, I do not know of anyone abroad who saw Fahrenheit 9/11 and thought bravo for Democrats unlike those corrupt Republicans; which was the movie's intension. Rather, people came out of the move theater clapping and saying, "What a bunch of dumb ##### Americans are".

For so many abroad you either American or your not. The term liberal or conservative means nothing to them. The problem lies with some who constantly mock the government and country believing they are being 'critical'. In reality people overseas take this as a sign that America is the root of all evil and on its way down. I have traveled to quite a few nations and try to stick away from talking world politics because 9 out of 10 times people will voice negative opinions of the US. If anyone thinks I am just voicing isolated opinions, I think they need to speak to their partners about it or visit a few foreign websites / forums.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

President's Daily Brief

Former Presidents are entitled to receive the PDB, if they so desire, only after the sitting President actually receives his daily briefing.

entitled, yes, but does that mean carter receives it? if so, how frequent?

Are you claiming people would be okay with their citizens being abducted, shipped to other countries and tortured as long as no American talked negatively about it?

I was arguing that your definitive comment "he has no more information than anyone else" isn't as black as white as you painted it.

Um, I was. Unless you know for certain that President Carter does not receive the PDBs, how can you say he has no more information than anyone else?

How would they find out about this? You think America is the only country that does this. The only difference is that they do not have a NYT and co reporting what they do 24/7.

You wouldn't notice if your brother or father had been abducted and then dumped in a foreign country unless the NYT told you? There are no other newspapers in the world? Maher Arar was all over the news in Canada and a blip here. Pull the other one, it's got bells on.

Some of your are adamant about making an extremely hard, all most impossible, job even harder for them. So they cannot tap calls, they cannot interrogate people, they cannot capture people for interrogation. What method of prevention is basically left for them to use? Telepathy, a time machine??

FISA allows the tapping of phone calls. There are laws regarding interrogation. And the law allows for capture, obviously. I'm not sure what you're getting at. Throw everything out of the window? Forget it all in the name of GWOT?

oh they can, but they have to follow the rules.. they can tap lines, with a warrant.. they can capture people, as long as it's the fukcin right suspect!! not some dude that they got 'confused'with

they can do stuff, as long as they follow the international rules, which they seem not to follow..
