We've only got the yip-yips (and their idiot owners) in my 'hood, I'm afraid.

Now that I think of it, they're worth fleeing at a fair clip!

Oops! I just read it's a resurrected thread. My advice might not be too helpful.

This is what you get from being addicted to VJ (I'm at work) :D

Thanks for the reply! It's all relevant. I started the thread, so I figure I could resurrect it!

I thought I'd resurrect this thread because I need some running motivation. Unfortunately, it's starting to get warm here in Phoenix, so I'm either going to have to start getting up really early to go on outdoor runs, or confine much of my training to a treadmill.

These days, I'm running about 15 miles a week. I hope to increase this to 20 in the coming weeks.

The only physical complaint I have at this point involves side stitches. I do seem to be getting them less often than I used to. For you experienced runners, is this typically a novice runner's complaint? It's really starting to piss me off.

No problem at all w/ the compartment syndrome. It seems that a fasciotomy really does the trick!

.

what i know is stitches is gas in the stomach, everyone may get it not only novice runners..avoid too much food and watter before training, high carbohydrate consumption can also cause stitches...when you get it anyway, try to press on the painful area and slow the pace down.

hope that help. i am not an experienced runner though...

by the way, did you run last january?

No, I didn't run the half in January. Around that time, I had a lot of trouble with shin splints (the classic type). Prior to the surgery, I wasn't able to run long enough for shin splints to be an issue. After a lot of trial and error w/ different types of running shoes and insoles, I discovered what type of shoe is best for me and, most important, that inserts of any kind just make it worse. Imagine my delight! A contributing factor was that I injured my big toenail around that time as well--the entire nail ended up coming off a couple months later--and accommodating that may have altered my gait enough to mess w/ the shin muscles.

Anyhoo, the shins are doing much better now. The stitch problem seems to be a classic right side stitch that has more to do w/ the diaphragm, I think. The pain is in the vicinity of the ribcage. I think they're occurring less frequently, but it's still a pain.

No problems w/ knees yet, knock on wood!
