Welcome back JK. I'm glad to hear things are going well for you and your wife.

I also heard the same thing regarding the SS card and the DS-230, so I went with my husband to the SSA office the day after we got here to file for his just in case. They said it would take between 2-4 weeks. It's been 2, we have 2 more to go.

Monica is keeping busy reading the California DMV handbook so she can take her test. She got her SSN two weeks ago and she was able to get a California ID. You need a SSN in order to get a DL here in California. I have noticed that spicy food is not something she is accustomed. I on the other hand, go full blast on the spices. We've been to one Colombian restaurant in San Jose and it wasn't the same as home. The food sucked to put it mildly.

It's been a 10 days since we got married, and I am still waiting for notification that my marriage certificate is ready. Adding her to my bank accounts was a breeze. They only asked for two pieces of ID, her passport and her cedula. My work has a very nice HMO plan and I just added her onto my coverage today. So far so good in getting her assimilated to our new way of life.

On the flip side, I am the one having a hard time adjusting with personal life and work. I am a road warrior and am seriously trying to stay home. I do think that I will change jobs beginning next year so I can be closer to home and have a "normal 9-5" job. Being on the road has taken its toll on me and it's difficult to get a balance.

Right now the only paperwork missing for AOS is the I-693 and Marriage cert.

Good morning everybody,

Today is my husband's first day at English school, hopefully it'll be ok. If not, I found another school about 2 blocks from this one and he can start classes on the 5th. Last night we took the lightrail to downtown so he can see how to get there on his own. Then we took a quick walk through 16th Street Mall and had to go get a cup of hot chocolate with a couple of pumpkin muffins so we could warm up because it was really cold.

On Saturday we went to a huge pumpkin patch in Broomfield and took lots of pictures. We bought 4 huge and very fresh pumpkins for us to carve later this week, took lots of pictures in the patch and then went to pet the live animals. It was really fun. Then on Sunday we had the first snow fall of the season and that was a blast since he had never seen snow before. We went out and took lots of pictures with him playing with it and laughing like a child, it was great.

Diana

P.S. Still no luck with the spicy food. I gave him one of my favorites to try, chili garlic sauce... he said it was too spicy.

Sounds like several lifelong memories were made yesterday. That's great, my friend.

Lorena likes to be called "Señora" also. In fact, even her boys answer with "Señora" when she calls them! I thought that was odd at first, but then she thinks lots of stuff here is odd (and I'm inclined to agree with much of it....LOL).

I know you'll have much better luck with the AOS than we're having. It would have been better for us to marry here or go the CR-1 route, but hindsight is always 20-20.

Again, congratulations from us both!

Paola seems to be fitting in good. She still will not leave the house by herself. In our city not many speak spanish, many Mexican's here but they keep a low profile. She does have interaction with them in her English classes. She is afraid that she will not get back to the apartment if she gets lost.

We have started going to the gym every night to workout, she enjoys that. Next week I am going out of town on a 3 day biz trip to Seattle and am taking her with me. I hope to show her around Seattle some.

She is really hitting the english hard, it gets in the way of my watching football on TV. LOL>LOL. She wants to practice english, I want to watch the game. I have convinced her that she loves football, but it is all lip service. LOL>LOL. We have a deal, we watch football togeather for me and I watch Amar sin Limites and Destilando Amor with her. Those Spanish soap's are as bad as the american ones. Well, the women are better looking on the Spanish soaps. LOL>LOL.

LOL... I agree about most of the Spanish soaps, though the Colombian ones seem to have better production values. One I really do enjoy is a romantic comedy (Hasta que la Plata Nos Separe). The rest I can take or leave (preferably leave).

One thing to be cautious of, Buck. You should talk to Paola about limiting her time watching stuff in Spanish. This is probably the biggest mistake I made prior to Lorena and the boys arriving - I signed up for all the Spanish language stations on Dish Network. The last four months the television has forgotten what English sounds like, unless I force the issue to watch CNN or something. The more exposure Paola has to English, on every level, the faster she'll pick it up. :-)
