Who said a thing about selling?

So what are we talking about when we refer to "assets"? Selling his house or his business?

Again...who said anything about selling???

I'm not looking to discuss 'what is an asset' as I think we all can figure that out....

Re: the house, a HELOC is available, so is a 2nd mtg. A refi is avail on the commercial prop as well. Hell, Daddy can work from home and they can rent out the building...

There are several options that don't include selling the home.

You know what? I know everyone seems to be using the facts culled from Michelle Malkin's dumpster diving but I just read articles in the Balitmore Sun and USA Today (i.e. not a left or right wing blog with an agenda). The Frosts re-mortgaged their house to pay for healthcare costs. They also had the corporate charter forfeited on the building his father owned in 2000 (shortly after the accident).

Also, the tax assesment in 2006 of the value of the Frost home indicated that it is worth about $263,000, not $500k

It was without a doubt a mistake to use this kid for political aims. Those who want to sift through the dirty laundry of this family will continue to do so, finding something, finding nothing, it's all moot to me. It should never have happened. The issues are quite easy to discuss without this.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Depending on the real estate tax laws of their state, the tax assessment won't necessarily match the value. For instance, in FL a primary residence is covered under a 'save our homes' amendment which means that you're only taxed on a slowly inflated figure of the original purchase price. That's how you have these people who bought low and are still paying on a fraction of what the house is worth now.

So they prolly refied while the house was assessed in the 200s....because even the articles which dispute what's revealed...or at least clarify what was revealed....even they don't dispute the home's current value.

So the corp charter was forfeited. What happened to the building?

Apparently in Maryland property tax assessments are based on realistic values, which is confirmed by the fact that the tax assessment value is only slightly below the median sales price for all houses in the neighborhood for 2006.

It's not clear what happened to the building in what I have read so far - it's also not clear that the father still owns it

Which goes to show what an absurd smearing of this family, after all that they've been through simply because they agreed to have their 12 yr. old boy read a public address on radio. Shame, shame, shame. They were well within qualifying for the CHIP program and that should be the end of discussion about them beyond the fact that the children benefited from the program.

I don't have a lot of time....and this is just my layperson opinion, but it would appear to me like there's some sort of capping system on assessments:

To help homeowners deal with large assessment increases state law has established the Homestead Property Tax Credit. The Homestead Credit limits the increase in taxable assessments each year to a fixed percentage. Every county and municipality in Maryland is required to limit taxable assessment increases to 10% or less each year.

Assume that your old assessment was $100,000 and that your new phased-in assessment for the 1st year is $120,000. An increase of 10% would result in an assessment of $110,000. The difference between $120,000 and $110,000 is $10,000. The tax credit would apply to the taxes due on the $10,000. If the tax rate was $1.20 per $100 of assessed value the tax credit would be $120 ($10,000 ÷ 100 x $1.20).

Why would someone allow their 12 year-old to do this? Maybe has something to do with the effect the libs wanted to convey about how Bush hates children.

Remember its all about the children and old people eating dog food.Same vein.

If Republicans want to complain about the Dems supposedly using this boy and his family as a prop - then have at it. But you don't smear a family who has done nothing wrong. I think this has really backfired on the political pundits who went after their credibility like rabid dogs.

I see, the kid should be heard but not responded to. As soon as he went public hes fair game! That my freind you can thank your liberal politicians for. Just like how the libs used Shehan, they dropped her like a used rubber and didnt give a hoot about her loitering at Gw's ranch. Now she is at Pelosi's house and Nancy is all kinds a pissed off.

I think the term 'smear' is used loosely here. Fact finding is not smearing, IMO. Republicans were curious about this family so they wanted to find out about their finances...fine. They crossed the line, IMO, when they proceeded to rant about this family abusing the system when in fact they haven't. They've done nothing wrong. They'd best serve their constituents by picking up the pieces, wiping off the foam from their rabid mouths and quietly walk away from this. The boy's family qualified for the CHIP and the boy and his sister benefited from it...end of story. There is no lie in that, no corruption, no breaking of any laws. Leave them alone now...harping on it is only going to work against the Republicans.

No, no, Gary - keep it up. Let the Republicans Swiftboat everyone and anyone who stands in their way. It's doing wonders with voter sentiment towards the Party. ;)
