I couldn't remember if the package was sent out by the NVC or the Montreal Embassy...

It seems it's NVC who gives the interviews date...so we'll see....

This is a darn good question! I also don't know what is sent and what exactly someone needs to take to MTL for the IR1/CR1 interview, where you have already sent the I-864/DS-230 to NVC.

If anyone knows if you could post details or Knowledge if you could post details when you get them I for one would find that really helpful :)

With so many getting interviews for November some might not get the mail out before the interview.

IRs (well, IR5s anyways) need to take any documents that are original and were not sent to NVC (assuming only copies were sent in) as well as the medical and any documents that are relevant (newer tax extract, police letters, etc.). The whole file is sent to MTL from the NVC which is why you only need to take the additional documents. Hope this helps (not as much as an early interview)!

The RCMP police certificate that I originally sent in to NVC, it was over 10 months old, so that also had to be renewed.

That is helpful. For the IR1 all original documents are at NVC, so that's that part.

This message from samaci is a bit concerning, that as the police check was over 10 months old it had to be renewed, which would take my Husband's up to about March - I thought they were good for a year?

Did you get an interview date yet IR5 - have you called this month?

I called on Monday but was told try again next month. I'm tempted to phone again later in the week but cali_mark, the other IR5 in this forum, has received notice that his mother's big day is November 8. Things are starting to look up.

My first interview package was sent by NVC. (then I missed that interview because... well, long story). Then my 2nd one was sent from Montreal, I guess because they had my case there.

2 things that I read in my interview packet, that put me into a panic were:

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months past your intended POE date. (I had to frantically run out, wait in a 3hr line at the passport office and renew it, and received it 2 weeks later). I needed the new one for my medical appt and interview.

The RCMP police certificate that I originally sent in to NVC, it was over 10 months old, so that also had to be renewed.

I can only suggest, to read everything in the interview packet. Everything!!

Sorry to see the delays you had to go through, but very happy that you passed the Interview, Congratulations in late

Thank you for preventing me of what to expect...in my case my passport's validity will be ok...the only thing will be the medical...i have for sure to begin before i receive the package to try to avoid now any delays...

After 2nd thought, i realize you got your interview in approx 2-3 months after approval at NVC...i don't understand why others wait since april for it...

Oh and last question, does anyone know how long it takes or to expect it takes the file to arrive at the Consulate?

Thank you all very much!

The NVC has a rough idea how many files can be processed in a given month and they are responsible for the scheduling. For non-appointment posts (embassy at London for example), everthing is done in-house so even if anything needs to go through the NVC, once the file is complete, it is immediately sent to the post.

The file from the NVC arrives for IR/CRs 6-8 weeks before the interview date. Once it is received by the consulate the NVC is notified and the letter for the interview is sent out to the applicant. The delay is due to batch processing (cost cutting measure?). So it is possible to have a batch of IR/CRs waiting until they reach a certain number of interviews (critical mass?) and then the the interview letters are sent out by MTL at the same time. Perhaps this explains why an interview letter is sometimes received only a few days before the interview. The capacity was not reached until later in the month. By the time MTL coordinates with the NVC, there is a delay that may cost some interview slots. The long delays that some IR/CRs face are not due to the FBI check but most likely due to the post-processing delay (file sits on someone's desk). The whole process sounds like a logistical nightmare to me, but we're the ones who end up paying for it. :(

Thanks for explaining the details of bureaucracy...and Congratulation for your interview  , just read this thread!

No idea how long it takes to get there. I know when I called NVC regarding the interview I missed, she told me on the phone that my case left the NVC on July 18th to Montreal, and my original interview letter was dated July 17th, for an Aug 9th interview. If that helps at all. I know lots of people are getting 6-8 weeks notice before thier interview, others are not. I got less than 3 weeks.

Oh that's definetely a short notice and i informed my hubby about it!...it terrrifies me to miss the interview! Thank you very much, yes it helps!!! (F)

Wow truckerbob, that's not very much time at all! I think there has been another VJ'er from Canada that had something similar. Try emailing the Consulate and seeing if you can postpone it? If you don't hear from them, gather as much evidence as you can, and get to that interview. You can perhaps reschedule it that day, or have your inteview. If you have everything else in order, except the medical, and if approved, your visa will just be pending until you can get them the medical.

If you want any other comments or suggestions or support, you should start a new thread here on this forum because this is an old thread from a year ago I think, and no one will probably be looking at it.

Best of luck and please update us on your situation!
