tools to the US

Hey guys,

Has anyone heard of JA peeps bringing over tools in their luggage. Fiance is trying to bring his tools over in the suitcases but doesn't want immigration to take them or hassle him about it.

i agree with ms nelly...i would call them and ask them about what he can and can not bring...you never know what rules they may have..

At one time I worked in Brazil, 3 weeks Brazil, one week off in the U.S.

I took tools back and forth with no problems, just told the airport workers that the tools were in the luguage.

Anything from 12" Crescent wrench to Laser measuring and detection devices to 4' levels.

They were for my personal use in my work, generally less then $1000 worth.

I did not take massive quantities, if you do you must declare them.

Never had a problem.

I wouldn't see why hand tools would be a problem but electric ones could be a hassle with current issues.

You might have to pay more for the heavy luggage maybe. I work with guys who are engineers and they travel all around the world and domestically with a luggage case filled with tools. So they gotta allow it. If it's overweight though might have to pay more.
