Interview Documents

My wife is attending the interview at the embassy in Moscow next week for K3. She ran across some instructions on their website listed under "List of Documents for Fiancé (e) Visa Interview" which state:

-Original birth certificate, photocopy and translation into English

-Evidence of termination of prior marriage(s) (if applicable), original, photocopy and translation into English.

In both instances it is the word "original" which concerns us. If this is referring to the USC's documents as well as the interviewee then it seems we could have problems. Not sure why they would expect her to have my original birth certificate with her along with my original divorce decree. Of course she has copies of everything that was filed with forms I130 and I129F which includes copies and translations etc. of these documents.

Has anyone had any experience with interpreting these requirements that you can share?

She is supposed to have an origional copy of your birth certificate and divorce decrees with her at the interview as well as hers. Most of the time they don't ask to see yours but they do have the right and have asked to have it there. If she does not have it and they ask at worst you will get a 221-G and have to supply it. Of course if it came to that you would probably never get it back but that is not a big deal.

So if a 221-G is issued do I send these documents Fed-ex directly to the embassy?

Unless the rules for K3 are different then for a K1, I never sent any originals of my documents to my wife for her interview in Moscow. She had all of her original documents, copies of mine and the full packet that I assembeled here and sent to her via DHL before the interview. I would say that she does not need any originals of your documents, copies should do just fine.

Good luck at the interview,

Mike.

Yes, or you can take them to the gate at certain designated times. The info is on the website or the form itself. I forget which but it if happens you will be able to find out what to do. I think you will be ok.

I sent only copies of my stuff. (K-1) No problems.

Remember, all of your originals have been viewed by the Service Center prior to being shipped on to NVC or the embassy. You've basically been "approved" as a sponsor by everyone up until that point. All you really have to do at the embassy is prove via your financial support docs that you're able to porvide fo someone. They already know you're a U.S.C.

Thanks all for the quick responses. It sounds like a longshot that they will require these originals from me.

Turboguy - congratulations on your upcoming rendezvous. I hope to be in this circumstance very soon myself.
