Well I've flown quite a few different carriers chasing after the lowest prices - Royal Jordanian, KLM, British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, and more....

....but when it comes down to it, I really prefer Royal Jordanian, even if it's a little bit higher. The convenience of RJ's direct flight Chicago-to-Amman cannot be matched -- 12 or 13 hours and you're there. All the other airlines seem to require these massive layovers in Europe -- usually 8 or 9 hours. I'd rather not waste that much time sitting in Frankfurt or Amsterdam just to save a hundred dollars  (If I was saving a LOT of money it would be worth it, but usually RJ is competitive.)

To save money, check out travel dates as far ahead in advance as possible. And it helps if you can be flexible as you plan it -- traveling on different days of the week... even be able to move the date a week or two earlier or later can save you big bucks. Also, avoid going during high season if you can -- for Jordan, it's summertime, around the Eid, and around Christmas/New Year's.

When are you planning to go ?

well, i never found no fantastic deal. I would always search www.kayak.com. Once I got a ticket for around $850.00. Generally, prices are from 950 to 1150.. When are you thinking of traveling?

I always flew on Royal Jordanian. It was a straight flight, no stops.

We are looking at prices in January...I would expect them to be about the same as in December...H is finding tickets under $700, don't know if thats with taxes or whatever. if you want I'll ask him what sites he was looking at. For past trips, I have done my date-selecting and price shopping online, but always got the tickets I want for less from a consolidator by me. Look an see if you have one near you. I have always paid over 100 less than my best internet price doing that. If you want I can give you their number here.

Everyone here is right about going RJ whenever possible. They are the only directs and usually priced the same or better than the flights with stops. Have fun planning!!

I think that's like a tours place / travel agent. EG: you walk into their office and get what you want.

I've gotten all my tickets from a local place. I've always found the internet places to be a couple hundred *MORE* than the local tours place.

Goes to show you: don't believe everything you hear on teh interwebs.

Ive had decent success with cheapoair.com and my preferred foreign airline is Air France. However as WOM has pointed out, alot of these carriers will stick you with some ridiculous layover if you want to save a couple hundred bucks. I usually wind up with a layover that warrants a hotel stay on the return trip. Nice for catching your breath, but delays getting back to home sweet home. And as previously mentioned, travel off-season like January, February, etc. Try to travel on Tuesdays and Thursdays, too. Ive found remarkable price differences just by moving the flight from Friday to Thursday. Also, beware of Priceline. You can get a super deal, but they dont reveal the itenerary until you buy the ticket and you can get stuck with some crazy #######.

I went trhough JordanTravel, I went in July and got a really good deal. All you have to do is call them and they will check and then offer you a price. I went July 2006 for under 900. I had to go from San Francisco to New York then to Amman and the same on the return trip. You can find the number online just seach for Jordan Travel. The company is out of New York.

Hope this gives you another option.
