In Morocco, didn't they start fasting on 9/14, 1 day after us? They must celebrate Eid on Saturday then, otherwise their Ramadan would only be 28 days. By that logic, I would think that since we started fasting on 9/13 here that Eid would be Friday.

I don't really understand how the lunar months work.

It's not so hard. a lunar month is 29 or 30 days. it can not be more or less. Thursday is the 29th of Ramadan (for most of the US) so Eid can be either Friday or Saturday. ISNA, using math and scence says the new moon is Saturday (Ramadan is 30 days long this year) so Eid is Saturday.

Morocco started a day behind us so Eid can be either Saturday or Sunday. Same principles.

Our local mosque waits to see the moon and doesnt follow ISNA for Eid so we willnot know until after maghrib on Thursday night.

That is what my husband said too. He told me they wait until Thursday night to see if they sight the moon.

Well the main mosque in Boston is celebrating it on Saturday so just to be on the safe side I'll wait until then. My local mosque is Turkish so maybe that makes the difference. It's odd though that they don't go by what the main Islamic Society of Boston and the Boston Chapter of the Muslim American Society go by but oh well.

I'll try to make the early morning prayers in Boston and I'm definitely going out to eat with some of the sisters and their spouses in my sisters' group inchalla. I'm getting excited but I have NOTHING to wear!!!:blink::blink:

I tried to tell my SO about it being either Fri. or Sat. and he said no... can't be, has to be Sat. because it is the same day all over the world no matter what  I tried to tell him about us Americans being confused over it and all he said is "are you listening to me or what?" and then gave me a lecture on the 5 pillars of Islam (which I already knew) - go figure :wacko: Totally bizzare reaction, but the was perfectly sweet the rest of the phone converstation.... makes me think maby I wasn't clear at some point
