Should I include a seperate cover letter for each form (485, 130, etc) letting them know what documents are attached to each or is 1 overall cover letter enough?

For example, for the 130 I am attaching the copies of birth certificates and photos and marriage certificate, etc and then for the 485 I have another copy of my wife's birth certificate, our evidence of a relationship, etc.

is it a bad idea to be TOO detailed like that?

I would think one cover letter indicating all you're attaching is good enough. That's the way we submitted our stuff: one cover letter saying "attached please find... blah blah blah". And it's never bad to be detailed, moi thinks ;)

Good luck, L.

I had a main cover letter and only had 1 other minor one explaining my finances as they were complicated.

Everything else was self explanatory.

I had a main coverletter and then one for each section. Maybe it was overkill, but I wasn't sure if all the applications would stay together or be separated during the process. I slept better knowng was covered.

Yea that was my thinking. I dont know where all this stuff is going or if it gets seperated. I dont think I'd lose points for being too detailed, but at the same time I've heard not to give more than they ask. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference.

Everything does get separated and sent to different places I guess, but I'm not going to bother with cover letters myself. EAD app. goes to a certain place and when they receive it they will see that it's an EAD app. To me it seems a waste of paper to put a cover letter for each form but it's up to you.

About the photos, etc. though. Do you really have to include them? Wouldn't a copy of the marriage license be proof enough that you are married?

I HATE miles, gallons, pints, words spelled without u's, and all that other jazz...

Oh I meant the passport-style photos. Sorry, should've been more clear. I was gonna submit photos of us, but instead I've included bus and plane ticket receipts and hotel receipts, etc.

No, its not a bad idea at all. My husband and I did that. Put everything that is required for that form under that form and a cover paper on top.

It doesn't really matter, since the cover letter just gets tossed anyway.

The cover letter I am making is mostly for my benefit. It has the form name (I-485) and the lines I can checkoff as the item is organized and included (photos, copies of visa's, DL's, EADs, etc)
