AOS after K1 Marriage, SSN question

Just looking over the forms for AoS which I will have to file next month after I land and get married.

Does it matter if I file for AoS before I have been able to get a SSN?

I know I should wait 10 days before going to the SSA office to apply for an SSN, and then it takes them 2 weeks to get me a number (I think anyway).

I'm going to be arriving on 15th Nov, and getting married on 30th Nov. Hopefully I'll be able to send off AoS packet on 3rd December. Is it ok to put "None" for SSN on I-485?

RatBoX,

You can file for AOS before applying for the SSN/card no problem - you'll be able to apply for the SSN 10-14 days upon arrival and getting the card can take 2-4 weeks (or longer).

Yes - you would enter 'none' on the form for the SSN.

I took Claudeth to the SSA office two weeks after she arrived and she received her card in the mail a week later. After we were married we wanted to change her name on the card but had to wait unilt we received something from the USCIS so when her EAD arrived we went back. It took about six weeks to get the new card. Good luck

It is best to apply for SSN at least 2 weeks after you arrived here in US because SSA will check it if DHS has recorded your entry into their system. I'm not really sure if that's true but that's what the lady at SSA told me when I applied for a number. You won't need the SSN in applying for AOS, just put "NONE".

I changed my name on my SS card after we got married and didn't have any problem. I guess states' policies are different from one another, ha?
