Was just thinking the same thing...looking forward to reviewing when I have an interview....whenever that will be....arrrrggghh!!

In any case I do have a hotel to review, stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn located in April:

380 rue Sherbrooke Ouest

Montreal, QC H3A 0B1

(514) 840-0010

Booked on Expedia I believe it was around $130 per night. Stayed for two nights. Did a test walk to the consulate took about 10 minutes. Also the Medisys office is conveniently located just a few buildings away on the same street. So if you are in the scenario to pick up your medical results on the day of interview it would literally be on your way from this hotel to pick them up and head to the embassy.

Also the hotel was quite nice clean, large rooms. Nice rainfall shower...typical better Hilton. Parking was underneath the hotel and convenient was around $20 per day, typical for Montreal. Had an office space near the lobby to print out documents or just to surf the internet, access via your guest card and was free. Also have FREE wireless throughout the hotel, very convenient (I cant live without my internet!!). Also have a pool and gym on the upper level we didn't use them but looked very nice!!

Hope this helps...

I just came back from staying at Hotel le Dauphne and can highly recommend the place. I paid $132/night. The Consulate is a 5-minute walk, Metro station Victoria Square 5 minutes and Old Montreal 10 minutes. The room was very spacious and clean, there was a computer in the room with free Internet access, flat screen TV with DVD player, free bottled water and included breakfast. It was a simple spread which included Montreal bagels (Fairmont), toast, three types of breakfast cereal, yogurt, boiled eggs, baked beans, apples, bananas, juice, coffee and tea. The bathroom is modern with a great shower. What more can you ask for! As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe there. To access your floor, you have to insert your key card in the elevator. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

I've been looking for hotels in Montreal and this post helped me a lot. My interview is in July so the hotel rates are ridiculously expensive. I tried looking for ones under $100Cad/night but, when I look on google map (the street view) it doesn't look like it's in a good area (bars on windows).

My husband and I ended up choosing http://www.squarephillips.com/ because it was the closest to the US Consulate.

Does anyone know what's the best way to get from YUL airport to Le Square Phillips? How much does the taxi ride cost? I've checked their website and it doesn't mention anything about having an airport shuttle.

There was a great post from Wyatt's Torch in his review of the consulate you should look at. He used L' Aerobus from the airport and it takes you to a main station where there are free shuttles to each hotel. L Aerobus is $16 each way and the shuttles are by tip/donation. He had absolutely no problem. I think cabs are around the $40 or so. I'm considering going the L Aerobus way and will look at this a little closer when I get down to the final countdown in July.

Go to review of the consulates or even Wyatt's profile and see his topics/posts and check it out. Others have waded in and commented so you'll get a lot of information.

VJ rocks !!

Good luck...

My taxi was $38 flat rate to Le Dauphin. I got to the airport afer 10:00 pm, so my husband didn't want me trying to find my way around in a strange city that late at night. Otherwise, I would have taken the bus. The hotel lived up to the reviews we read here. :D I would stay there again, if I were going to Montreal. In fact, we will probably look up the one they have in New Orleans when we decide to go there on a trip.

It was close to Old Montreal, and to China Town. It was raining the last night we were there, so we asked the person at the desk if there was a place that would deliver. She gave us several different menus to look at. Because the folks at the front desk knew we were ordering for delivery, when the driver got there, she gave them a passkey for the elevator, so they could deliver right to our room.

I'm semi necro'ing this thread.

Becuase I want to add another review:

After reading reviews on many of the hotels, I decided to use "L'appartement Hotel" which is about 6 blocks away becuase you have to make this semi loop around some of the blocks becuase there is no road going straight through towards the consulate.

I chose this one becuase there wasnt a bad review on all the websites saying that it was dirty, which was my biggest fear, and it had parking available for my car.

PROS:

- hotel is bilingual

- hotel is within walking distance

- nice room, I got the kitchenette in ours, it was fully stocked

- clean room

- internet provided

- has exercise room and roof top terris

- the breakfast was good, large room to sit in and lots of food to choose from

- nice view from the 11th floor

- staff was very friendly and helpful

- room was quiet

- had flat screen and cable tv, had some english and some french channels

CONS:

- paid parking ONTOP of room cost, I swear Montreal is the only place I've ever heard of this

- rooms are like $140 a night and parking cost me $45 for two days

- parking is underground in a very very very tiny hole in the ground, don't have a large vehicle or you aren't getting in or out

- parking, there are only a few spaces, maybe 10, don't know what they do if its full

- they charged me for using a calling card on the phone line, even though the calling card absorbed the charges

- pool was FILTHY, it was murky looking, not clear, and we saw two bandaids in there, and big balls of hair, we told them about it, and they never cleaned it

- balcony in our room was a little iffy, the railing was rusty, and the concrete was starting to be worn off on the outer corners

- internet was like being on dial up, it was painfully slow

- one of the elevators would shake when we hit the 6th floor

- the bed was hard, it was like sleeping on the floor basically

- the main blanket they gave us reminded me of a gym mat, very thick and stiff

- when they cleaned our room while we were out they only rinsed our dishes, they didnt take them or wash them, which I thought was weird

- there were a lot of homeless people that were sleeping outside, one was right on their outside enterance way

So in all the hotel served it's purpose with a few annoyances!

Would I recommend this hotel: probably not

Would I stay here again: probably not

Was it worth the money I paid: NOT AT ALL

On a side note:

Next to the consulate there is a churchy looking place with an open parking lot.

I parked my car there for the two and a half hours that I was at the consulate.

[i had pulled the arch muscles in my feet and didn't want to walk afterall as even the standing was painful]

I did not have any problems, and it was free.

I stayed at the Delta Montreal and it was great. I took the bus in and it stops a few blocks from the hotel. Easy walk up. The hotel is literally a five minute walk to the consulate. The staff are bilingual, very helpful and friendly. I had a room on the 17th floor - the place was very clean and well maintained. The king size bed was excellent and extremely comfortable. I tend to be picky with hotel beds and half the time I go to sleep fine to wake up a cripple sooooooo this was very comfortable. There is internet access in the rooms and also downstairs where they have several computer stations available. The restaurant had good food. The pools were clean but busy with people so I opted out.

Overall, I was quite impressed with the whole experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Montreal. I used airmiles to get the room so I'm not exactly sure what the cost was but there are many deals on line. And of course July and August etc are the high season months so prepare to fork out a few more dinaros...

All good.

Good luck to all.

the closest is the La tour!! I stayed there back in 2004 and it was very dated!! I would never stay there again! I guess it was fine for me, but if my wife had of been there, would have preferred something else! And of course they had a bedbug thing a few yrs back to, but really, what hotel hasn't!! I'm sure the delta would be much nicer!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We originally booked to stay at Le Tour for the entire week we were in Montreal. After the first two days, I checked out, relocated to a hotel near the airport and stayed there until the night before our interview.

The hotel was...VERY close to the consulate. That's the only thing I liked about it, actually I kinda felt scared in the room at night and one of the elevators had a very strong urine smell going on.
