I'm looking at using up my last airmiles for the hotels. W Montreal costs a lot more and I'll have to kick in some extra cash for that hotel but it's problably totally worth it. I can fully do the Delta Centre-Ville without any cost given my airmiles. Anyone stay at the Delta? How far is it? The map shows it's further , opposite direction from Hotel Dauphin but I wasn't able to find out from the person on the phone how far it actually is ie walking distance. W Montreal is apparently a 5 min walk according to answer the phone dude.

I booked a flight to Montreal yesterday so I can be in the city at a reasonable hour on July 26th.

I'm not as concerned about how close the hotel is to the consulate.

Are there any reviews for hotels that were under $100/night that are maybe a little furthur out?

I'm sure there is [free/pay] parking around the consulate?

well we stayed at le dauphin, the price was 110/night there plus 20 for the parking. parking price seems pretty std from what i saw. as for parking near the consulate we were iffy about that since montreal tends to be very quick with tickets or that lovely boot they put on your car..ugh.

Hotel Travelodge Montreal Centre

50 Boul Rene Levesque West

montreal, QC H2Z 1A2

(514) 874-9090

We booked a room for 3 nights. We arrived around 10:30pm. We parked our vehicle in front of the parking garage and I went in to check in. Our room is on the 11th floor $311 for 3 nights (www.booking.com), and parking was $14 or $17 a day. The garage was full, and was advised to park a block down in another underground parking garage. My husband was very upset and the front desk guy (a very tall man) said he called his supervisor and arranged a parking spot for us. So we enter parking garage - its very tight and only holds maybe 20 spots. We go up to our room - first reaction is I'm very disappointed at the size (quite smaller than what the pictures indicated. The bathroom was very small too... only had a stand up shower that was in the corner and had a cloth curtain. Queen size bed, that at first i thought was hard. We were also disappointed that it was non-smoking. THE WHOLE HOTEL IS NON SMOKING. Towels were small too...i would bring my own next time. I thought about switching hotels, but said no, i'm just tired and cranky. The pillows were small too. In the morning we go downstairs to eat our "free" breakfast. It offered coffee, tea, juice, cereal, fruit, muffins, toast etc. You can order eggs, bacon, and other food for a cost.

The LOCATION is GREAT!!!!!!! All things aside, the location makes it worth staying there. Chinatown is directly behind the building, 4 banks within the block. A grocery store, and a mall. St. Catherine street is one street up. Old Montreal is 4 blocks away. The Consulate is a 5 min walk.

WORD OF ADVICE----- Do not go to the Hotel Gift Shop. He exchanges money, but will RIP YOU OFF. I asked him how much Canadian $ will I get if I give him $300 American. He said $285 Canadian. I thought I heard him wrong. I asked if the American dollar was less than the Canadian $ - he said yes. I told him I would go to the bank when it opened. I gave the bank $200 American and got back $208.00 Canadian.

Also, parking in Montreal is SUPER expensive... I'm talking like MIN $13. So keep your vehicle at the hotel and walk everywhere. There are also bikes you can rent on the corner.

I just finished booking with Priceline. I'm paying $89 for the Maritime Plaza. It's about 12 blocks or so from the consulate and it has a 3 star rating. The reviews seemed to be positive. I was trying for a 3.5 or 4 star but settled for 3. Priceline is like Hotwire in that you don't know what hotel it is until you've booked it. But they guarantee you the quality of whatever star rating you are bidding on.

We have been checking out http://www.betterbidding.com/. We are not sure which one we will use between Hotwire and priceline, but the website has some interesting information. Having never used either one, I was wanting to find out if there were any major differences between the two. Other than William Shattner, I mean . . . Any ideas?

I think both sites are fine to use. We prefer to use Hotwire, but there's not real reason why.

We booked through Hotwire for our hotel and ended up with the Hyatt about a 5 minute (if that) walk from the Consulate. It was only $78, but that was also in March 2009.

Can really go wrong with Montreal since the city isn't all that big. Any hotel you get on Hotwire will be a reasonable distance to the consulate.

I just booked the Delta Montreal - very close to the consulate. All good. Would have been great to spend a little more time in Montreal but that will be for another trip. Flight and hotel taken care of - medical booked. Have to review the documents - the only thing left is to pick up the Express Post envelope. All good.

I've been grooving on google maps - fun to take a walk through Montreal on google lol

L'Appartements on Sherbrooke is a very nice place. I stayed there many times over the years Very clean, friendly staff, within walking distance to St. Catherines St. and also not far from Schartz on St. Laurent Blvd.

There's a small convenience store just around the corner on the side street next to the hotel (about 300 ft up the street on the left)
