Whenever I went to Montreal on business, I stayed at the Sheraton on Rene Levesque. Its right across the street from the train station, and maybe a 15 minute walk to the consulate. Nice, but very expensive though. ($175 to $200+ per night).

I've stayed at the Sheraton (also on business :) .... maybe we've met, Reba!) and it was quite nice.

My husband and I stayed at The Marriott Residence Inn when we went for our interview, which is just around the corner from the Sheraton. It was lovely, and within walking distance of everything. There were some fantastic restaurants on our street, and a lovely bakery. (mmmmm. I love French cooking and baking.) It includes a really nice hot breakfast and a "Manager's Reception" each evening, so there's really no need to pay extra and eat out unless you want to experience the city.

If you go to Tourisme Montreal you can get some really great last minute deals.

We stayed at the La Tour Centre-Ville. In my humble opinion, 2 star at best. It was clean and extremely close to the consulate, that is about the best I can say for it. The staff was nice enough but they messed up our reservation (twin beds instead of a queen) and were unwilling and or unable to remedy the error or provide compensation. Oh, and if you drive, don't bring anything too big. My Highlander barely fit under the door and the parking is very tight and narrow. My fiancee adds that the water is very hard.

Just made a reservation at Hotel XIX Siecle

$117 a nite plus fees for 4 nights – other than La Tour, no farther than any other place and a much nicer hotel for not a lot more, located in old Montreal and a good price for one of the nicer old hotels there. will let ya know how it is though other on line reviews seem pretty good

I attended a conference held there and it was lovely. (I stayed at the Sheraton but had friends at the QE. The train station is immediately below the building, with all kinds of great shopping and eating. I highly recommend the Marriott Residence Inn. (see earlier post) And if you join the Marriott Rewards program you'll get great points. (I don't own shares.... honest. :P )

So, my Husband stayed at Chateau L'argoat in Montreal and took these pics - he said it was alright and the bed is very comfortable. This is room 26 (it is actually what the room is 'called' when you look at the room descriptions online. It has a memory foam bed which is apparently very very comfortable and it is at the back of the hotel - so very quiet as well.

It is $110 a night for 1 person, although they charged him $120, because they couldn't seem to figure out that it was only him staying the night (although emails were exchanged).

So with taxes etc it came to $134.52

We stayed at Hotel XIX which was a 15-20 minute walk even in the snow storm they had....we were very happy with our room. Boutique hotel in Old Montreal with many restaurants within walking distance.

Less than $115/night booked online via hotels.com

I have to say...whenever I travel for business, I always look up my destination in www.tripadvisor.com......
