A friend of mine asked me what I would do if my soon to be Russian wife fails the medical exam or police check. I tried to answer him but realized I don't know what I'd do. Of course, it would depend on the seriousness of either the medical condition or the police issues but it has given me pause to consider whether I'm ready to face living overseas with my wife if it turns out she will not be granted an immigration visa.

So...I'm looking for feedback and experiences of others who may have encountered these problems.

"Fail" is strong but self-explanatory term. Either would result in visa denial and NOID. Overcoming the denial would be extremely difficult and probably require the assistance of a very good immigration attorney. Certain crimes and deseases absolutely disqualify a person for immigration to the US.

Ultimate failure would invoke many options that do not include reuniting in the US.

It depends... if the "fail" like pushbrk said falls within one of the really "bad" categories, the visa will be denied. Yet, if say the wife has a conviction or a disease which are waivable (check out the waivers subforum), there is a procedure you follow and get the visa, if the waiver is approved.

I am no expert, but I think this is kind of how it goes.

Peace, L.
