Another rant from me

urhhh I'm so frustrated I could scream right now!

I get child support from my ex for my 2 kids that we had together. His employer takes it right out of his check and mails it to the state of illinois where they turn around and give it to me via direct deposit. This is supposed to insure that I get my money and that payments are recorded correctly to the account. The state of Illinois mandates that all payments for child support be handled this way, as opposed to just letting my ex pay me directly. It's supposed to protect both parties.

Well, my child support is supposed to be deposited to my account every other Tuesday (Wednesday at the latest) due to the fact that they mail the check out on friday payday. There have been occassions where it's been later than that, and that usually happens every 3 months or so, and usually if there's been a mail holiday in between. Then I get my payment on Saturday at the very very latest. (usually by thursday to tell the truth) Well my ex got paid on the 31st of March and I still have not gotten my child support for that pay.

So I call the state of Illinois. No they haven't received a payment. So I call my ex... he calls his other ex and yes she's gotten hers. So I call his payroll. Her stance is they mailed it therefore me and the state must be mistaken about not receiving it  She all but calls me a liar and says that the state has to give her something that says that I didn't get paid before she'd give me a check number or anything like stop payment and reissue. So I call the state back. She says the info is available online in my case status and that printout is all they will give the employer. She says they need to stop payment and reissue or my ex's status will be late and they will start charging interest on the amount and then if he does not pay they can take away his driver's license and tax returns, etc. So I call my ex... he is currently over at his HR department (he works off site and there is a small office where he is in st. louis but payroll is in idaho.) arguing with them over what is going on. They don't want to accept the printout, and that's all the state will give!

He has asked them a million times to just direct deposit the funds to the state (as the state offers this option and it will make life easier for both me and the other ex, plus insure nothing gets lost) but his employer won't do it.

He's ticked because the money came out of his check, and that's supposed to be so I can feed, cloth, and house our children, and yet I haven't seen it 10 days after he got paid. It's ridiculous.

I can not WAIT until Johnny's pay picks up and we can not depend on that child support. Then I can take my time about arguing with these stupid people without being broke in the process!

anyway, that's my rant for today. thanks for listening!

UGH what a logistical nightmare!!!

Having said that, at least he is not the type of person to avoid paying. In that respect, you're quite lucky!!

I know I'm lucky. He'd never try to get out of paying for the kids.. he knows it's his job too. And truth be told because he pays and is so good about it, we don't ask him for things we are entitled to like 1/2 of medical bills and 1/2 of sports stuff or after school stuff. We've talked about trying to get a judge to let us officially "drop" the child support going to Illinois and having him pay me directly so we don't have to deal with that #######.

It's just a mess... 2 weeks later and it wouldn't be a big deal, J would be getting his pay regularly (he just started the job and they are on 2 week pay cycles so he's only been paid for 1 week so far) and we'd be ok. This week we are broke and our truck's starter went out so we're down to 1 car until we get it fixed. So it's like this is the worst time this could happen to us! We'll make it... just gotta get till Friday and we both get paid again, but man, this just sucks! I hate being late on a bill, and our rent is late because of this.

He basically told them today that if he gets fined because of this he's suing them, and won't that look great for their international company to be sued by it's own employee.

His point: if me and the state were going to defraud the company it'd be for a lot more than 400 bucks!
