I posted her new music video being promoted by her record co. and their sales pitch, which I thought was funny. The video and the song suck, however, I'm not a spokesman for the rest of the people who also think she's a talentless bimbo who's finally getting her comeuppance as far as her career is concerned.

As for her personal foibles...

We snickered when Hugh Grant was caught getting a ####### from a hooker, laughed at Michael Jackson's ever changing face, openly accused OJ Simpson of being a killer, lampooned Paris Hilton over her sex tape. Nothing new here except what I see as selective sympathy by some here. The same ones who'd jump up and down til their red in the face saying someone else got what they deserved and called anybody who showed them sympathy a bleeding heart. What schmuckery.

You've missed my point entirely btw....people can laugh at her antics all they want...but the glee that's so appararantly felt by some for this girl's downfall is crazy. Of course, it's nothing new...and I find it sad that the main targets for people's vitriol seem to be female celebs. She does have me scratchin my head quite a bit at some of the things she does....but to be reveling in a situation where a mother's kids were taken away due to drug addiction? That's sad.

Then again, Steven....if she were illegal or still poor, she'd have your full support! Hrmmmmmmm.

Yet interestingly, your first comment was how you can't understand how people are obsessed with hating her. I've always said she sucks as a performer, long before her personal life turned into a train wreck.

There's nothing wrong with showing sympathy for someone who's made bad decisions with their life...it's just laughable how in most cases here in OT, to do so is labeled as having a bleeding heart. I think most of us can separate ones behavior from the person, so showing sympathy for the predicament or situation they are in is a good thing, IMO.

It's not just this thread......it's all over the place here.

I am also not sure, if you are so anti Britney music, why you would post her video simply to dis it? If I don't like something, I simply don't seek it out, period. My personal taste doesn't dictate any one else's and when it comes to art, music etc, it is very much a personal preference thing. It does appear disingenuos to me when anyone holds up something they don't just to get some satisfaction over having it attacked.

I dunno - I sent my mate a youtube video of Kevin Federline's single because I thought it was hilariously bad. I also sent another friend mine sample copies of badly written novels (erotic "urban fiction"). In both cases because I knew they'd get a kick out of them.

Nothing wrong with that IMO - I mean if we're talking about art, the commercially produced variety (constructed in a climate of cynicism) really lends itself to this kind of criticism.

I don't think there's really much wrong with that, or reason to doubt that there's a certain degree of separation between a person's private and public persona.

Edit - to add I draw the line very firmly at the point where people wish physical or other harm on others, and that goes on as much here as anywhere else.

IMO its far more despicable IMO than making a few juvenile quips about overweight or drunk celibrities.

Also its difficult not to resent the marketing aspects of our celebrity culture. People like Britney who put out cynically produced pop music represent a marketing industry (really a non-stop engine) that is extremely pervasive. When you flick on the TV and see these people (who I have no real interest in) getting massive wall to wall coverage I think its going to inspire a negative reaction. I resent the implicit assumption via the media that somehow I should be interested in these people and their work. I'm not.
