Universal Health Coverage --- Call It Socialized Medicine

And in the end, I spend way less money here on health insurance than back in Germany, and I can confidently say I get much better service here.

The numbers tell a different story. No other country has a per capita health care expense as high as the US. You only count what you see coming out of your paycheck and that is not all that you contribute. By far not. ;)

I find it very sad in a country where men and women have died fighting to preserve our freedom and have died fighting off socialism and communism that some are now considering socialized medicine as a solution to improving access to health care.

What a load of complete $hit that argument is, not least the puerile grasp of history that is on display.

That's the propaganda that's been put forth by the profiteers of the broken system for some time: Once everyone gets access to health care, communism will be imminent and becomes practically the inevitable. Yeah, some load of ####### that is.

I can share my story here.. Last Sept 14. 2007.. I had appointment with the dentist..I wanted to have a "BRACE" but they found out I'm having problem with my gums(naked eyes can't see it)No one can tell that I have problem cos its really look so healthy teeth and gums(getting a sign of gum disease). My Dentist in Phils. didn't even told me that I have problems . I'm still under treatment. Anyway, My dental bill came up to $7,400 and my insurance just pay $5,374 and the $2,026 is out of my SO pocket :crying:

What do you think about these?

I don't know of one UHS that covers dental.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Ehm, it's been awhile but that was (and I think still is) sort of included in Germany.

There are co-pays and such but there is general coverage for dental.

I would say your damn lucky. I have what would be called excellent health insurance and my dental plan only covers 50% up to $1500/year. Most people with company sponsored health insurance don't even get that.

I just think people have this false sense that everything is free under UHS. Another thing is that under a NHS most hospitals are government run and owned. This would mean the US would need to spend trillions buying or building hospitals.

While I do think the system needs to be reformed and modernized, I would not want to see it turn into another mediocre government run health system.

Dentistry's hard to work in a private insurance model. For insurance to work, you need a large pool of people paying in premiums, for whom it's worth their while to pay the premiums given the risk of something bad happening to their health. Most people feel pretty comfortable with their estimate of dental expenses, so they don't buy in, so the cap is low, so they don't buy in...

It's not like health insurance where anyone could be in an auto accident, so everyone has to be covered for a big expense.

I asked that on the last page (#208)!

When you have posts like these.

I have read the posts but did not really respond earlier on. Especially to the posts like Canada having a better heath service.
