Does anyone know if the Juarez consulate requires the I-134 or I-864 for proof of financial support?

Hi Alisa,

I'm eventually headed to Juarez too. Juarez has all of packet 3 online and from what I've seen, they don't require either the I-134 or the I-864. They list form OF-167 as public charge information, so I think this is as much as they require. I think I might take along a an I-134 too just to be safe. It's possible their website it not up to date, but I had a friend go through Juarez as well and said they didn't ask for a single paper proving financial stability. Who knows! I guess I'll just keep waiting...

I would definitely take a I-134 with you in case and all the supporting documents (i.e. tax returns, employer letter, etc.). We saw people turned away when we were in Juarez because they didn't have all the paperwork needed. They did take my I-134 but turned down my parents' I-864 and I-864A as cosponsor telling me to save them for AOS. (Turning down the cosponsors was rather odd - I had no job at the time since I had quit and moved to Mexico 2 years prior - but they only turned it down after seeing my tax returns proving I had an excellent paying job in the US before I quit AND after I confirmed I could return to that job upon my return. (although I did tell them I probably wouldn't be...))

Moral of the story: Better safe than sorry - especially at Juarez

10/22 - I-485 Biometrics NOA received, appt 11/15
10/27 - Touched on both I-485 and I-765.
10/31 - I-765 Biometrics NOA dated 10/24. Appt on 11/29 at 12PM.
11/15 - Biometrics for I-485 and I-765 done on same day.
11/16 & 27 - Case "touched" on bcis.gov.
12/7 - EAD approval by e-mail. Card is on its way. Thank you Lord!!
12/12 - Received EAD.
1/9/06 - Applied for SSN. Received 1/17
3/30 - Got our AOS Interview notice!! Interview date 5/31
5/31/06 - Permanent residency granted! Passport stamped IR6. God is so faithful!

2/2/16 - Mailed in N-400 paperwork

2/10/16 - Received text that N-400 paperwork was received.

2/16/16 - Text that fingerprint appointment has been scheduled.

3/1/16 - Biometrics interview, Naperville, IL

3/11/16 - E-notice that case is in line for an interview

7/8/16 - Text/site updated that Interview date has been assigned

7/14/16 - Received letter dated 7/11 with interview date on 8/11
8/11/16 - Interview, given paper that said passed test but no decision can be made at this time.

10/18/16 - Received text, status online updated to say oath ceremony has been scheduled!!!!

The Foreign Affairs Manual specifically states that the I-864 is not to be used for K-1 applicants, so by the strict letter of the law it's not legally permissible for the K-1 application to require it.

Of course, that doesn't stop some consulates from incorrectly requesting it... :)

it is not required, it is not listed...........yet they do sometimes ask for it, they did it to me...........they dont care which one so pick one, i had i-134 with me and officer was fine with it
