Thanksgiving

In my family, it was a tradition while sitting around the Thanksgiving table, to hold hands before eating the meal, and have each person say just one thing they were thankful for. I carried this tradition on in my own family, and a few friends have adopted this now as well.

I introduced it to my new "American" family in November 2005. It only takes a few minutes, and really gives one pause to think about all that we have to be thankful for.

I am not thankful for having to wait until november for turkey!

I am thankful that the Europeans didn't kill us natives off so that now we too can enjoy this holiday along with them./sarcasm.

Truth: I am thankful to finally be living with my fiance after four years of doing the long distance thing.

I am thankful for such a smooth AOS process, and that the move, and the finances were all there when we needed them..

I am thankful for not one, but two amazing families - the one who has raised me so lovingly, and the one who is welcoming me home to my fiance next week.

I'm also thankful for having two Thanksgivings this year. More turkey!

I am Thankful for a Jamaican web site I was on where I met two lovely Canadian women, who are now some of my closest friends.

Hmm, in that case I can't say I am very thankful to have a loving, wonderful fiance who, unlike the last one, really truly cherishes me and who I feel like I can really be myself around and say anything to, even though of course I am.

Not sure I should say I'm thankful for the Phillies getting into the playoffs, either, since they are about to get their collective butts handed to them by the unsinkable Colorado Rockies.

This may seem a little bit maudlin, but it's what I have been thinking of lately. One of my parents' two sweetie-pie puppies died Tuesday morning of lymphoma. My heart is really aching because this dog just LOVED to petted and I will never again be able to pet his beautiful head and my fiance will never be able to meet him at all. But those two dogs were there when my life was at its lowest point (I had to move back in with my parents at 33 after leaving my ex while living overseas in a country where I knew few people and barely spoke the language). The waggy happy tails and expressions of sheer joy just at seeing me come into the room was a major ego booster when I really needed one. And the sweetie-pup I have now, too, gives both me and my fiance so much love. I'm really thankful for the love of good dogs, too, because they really have enriched my life.

Obviously I'm thankful that I'm marrying a man who can handle my soppyness.....

The other things...having a good job, nice house, opportunities to travel...that's all just bonus material.

This is a good thread. It's nice to hear such positivity.

I am thankful for two wonderful, caring parents and two of the most amazing brothers any one could ever ask for. We are so close and our relationship is unbreakable. My youngest brother is going through a hard time at the moment and it is killing me I can't be by his side. But I will see him tomorrow so it will make up for it.

I am thankful for this guy who loves me unconditionally. I never thought I would be married at 23, but I'm so blessed I met someone as early as I did and know in my heart that he will be there for me, and is, through thick and thin.

I guess I should just be thankful for life and health. I have had another year without any serious health problems and for that, I owe thanks.

And OBVIOUSLY...TO YOU GUYS! This support system here on VJ is vital for so many reasons. You guys can understand what it is like to miss Canada, you guys can give help for certain things others have questions about, and it is just nice to know that somewhere out there, there is a girl or guy from small town Canada who met a guy the same way I did or even differently, and is going through the same things I am.
