Alright, that's it. Things have gotten so ridciculous here at VJ. You can't say ANYTHING anymore without someone looking to pick a fight about it! We all have to give each other hugs and say "you rock!" constantly. I've had it! I didn't realize I joined Barney's playroom. I'm off for a while....

Jenn,

I hope you are not off for too long

You know, I really wanted to stay away, because all of this has really pi**ed me off, but I just couldn't resist seeing what was going on in my absence (of not even 2 hours )

Cam across this thread which validates me even more.

Taken entirely out of context by someone who wasn't even involved in the issue to which the statement was a response. Unbelieveable!

It may not be easy sometimes but one has to work on not taking things so personally (I'm talking about me) so breaks come in handy.

Jenn, I'm glad 2 hours was all the break you needed :dance: You would be missed if you left for long.

This is veering off the original subject but is there belief in the evil eye in Lebanon and Egypt? Belief in jinn and the evil eye is somewhat common in Morocco (don't pour hot water down the drain because it angers the jinn).

The hand of Fatima is seen hanging everywhere in Egypt too.

Abdel's sister sent me back a necklace with the eye on it when a friend went to visit recently. I try to wear it every day.

I brought back little wooden hands for my co-workers when I went to Morocco. Most of us have them hanging in our offices now. We joke about needing them where we work!

I got a beautiful silver hand of fatima for my mom the first time I went to Egypt. She hung it by the door to her classroom. She has a "language of the week" feature, and when arabic comes up, she explains how it's used to keep jinnie (like the genie in Aladin  ) from bothering you. It was really important for me that she accepted it and liked it, because she's never been thrilled about my choice in husband. Maybe one day she'll come around...nah...

That's what I get for sleeping ... I missed more drama.

JP, I did get kicked off and tried to get back on and couldn't. Oh and yesterday when I was chatting with you I felt sooo much better so I got more planning done. I booked my hair & makeup lady (after calling alot of places ... she comes to the home no extra charge .. other places wanted $100 just to come to the home) ... so I will be having my hair & makeup trial soon.

Thanks !

15 days .... :)

Reunited and it feels so good ....

Rahma,

Don't count your mother out. One of our family's closest friends is an Egyptian/American couple. They are now in their 60's and have three grown daughters. Her parents took years to accept her choice of husband, but he eventually won them over. (L)

Ironically, when one of their daughters married an Arab and chose to go live in his country, they too initially objected, but have also come around.

the first gift Said gave me after we met (L) was a hand of Fatima necklace w/ turquoise stones in it.... i wear it almost daily as "my protection" while he's not w/ me  I love it and get many compliments on it. My first trip to Maroc, I brought back many keychains w/ the hand of Fatima on them for gifts to friends and clients. They all loved them and some even turned the keychain into a necklace like mine cuz they liked it so much!

Cool, eh? :star:

I'm hoping when we have kids, they'll come around, inshaAllah. :star:

Does anyone else's parents have issues with their spouse choice?
