JP My mother in law is a seamstress and as a matter of fact the larger women bring what article of clothing they like and she makes a bigger version. At one point I was thinking of living in Irbid Jordan with my husband that's one of the reason's i took my son with me to see how he felt in that kind of environment ok so that was a no go  So we kicked around some ideas about him opening his own shop. I noticed when I went shopping there was only size large which really was a small medium. Anyways I asked him where do all the larger women shop. He told me that they have like one store that kind of sells bigger clothes, but if you want something bigger you have to put a request in at the factory where it was made. Say like in Amman or they take it to his mother or some other ladies that make clothes. So I said how come we don't open a shop that sells clothes to larger women I told him we can make a lot of money, but he told me a shop like that wouldn't make as much because they would be embarassed to go in there. I think it would have worked if we offered clothes to both consumers. Oh and sold shoes up to size 11. My mother in law wears the same as me if not a little bigger. I sent her like 4 pairs of shoes. good thing i took clothes with me for every day i was there.

They do have some nice clothes there and cheap and some nice shoes but too small. Believe me i wanted to buy all kind of clothes but couldn't because of the size. I mean i'm not big just average but still everything was small. I do plan on moving there sometimes in the future. I'll keep that store idea in mind!

LOL about your son...thats so cute! I also plan on moving there one day. My fiance has a house there and life is alot less stressful. We would be in Zarka though.... I like Amman better.

Now about the clothing thing, I mean I seriously could not find one thing I liked! I am a shop-o-holic, crazy addiction. I have about 90 pairs of shoes, can't even keep track of clothes. I can usually find something whereever I go, but in this case I could not find one thing I wanted to buy! Wait that is actually not true, when we were in Swefiyeh, I found lots of cute stuff, but really overpriced and I hate bargaining so I didn't bother.

What you are saying about the seamstress, thats exactly what my aunts do there. Let me re-phrase, I found shoes, but they were all plastic. I'm really picky, they got to be leather or they hurt my feet.

I went to Irbid when I was there and I really like it alot. I can see what you mean about women not wanting to go in the store. I have friends like that here, I personally don't care but I know people that are really shy. We are pretty close in size..I wear a 12 sometimes 14 depending on the cut and we wear the same size shoe. I guess I could have found stuff if I really wanted to take the time out and look but I was more interested in spending my time with my hunny ;)

It got so bad that my husband actually broke down and did a load of whites without me prompting *faints* He'll usually help when I do it, but this is the first time he's done it on his own. Break through!

My husband will *never* do (real) laundry, he'll just wear around dirty clothes instead if I don't do it. It pisses me off, but I knew that when I married him and I've had to accept it.

I drew the line last night when he told me to make the bed. That didn't go over too well.:lol:

lol.. that reminds me of that commercial, where the wife asks her husband to freshen up to get ready, and he gets up and turns his shirt inside out and puts it back on !! gross !! lol

Sheeze.. and I thought American culture was hard on bigger women... I guess they have their own way of expressing dislike for larger sizes... by not making clothes for them !

Abdel will do laundry, but his thing that drives me nuts is that he hates to dress up. I had an honor society induction a week or two ago and told him to wear dress pants. He fought that one insisting that jeans would be fine. Then when I told him to be sure to wear black socks, he thought I was nuts. I finally gave in and at least let him wear his shirt untucked. He didn't have a belt so it looked better that way than tucked with empty beltloops showing.

I guess I should be glad he didn't just "turn his shirt inside out!" :P

I guess I do owe Leila an apology. If she wants to post the Quran, that's her business. I guess I was just trying to let her know that not everyone here is Muslim, so what it says doesn't control our lives. That doesn't give me a right to disrespect the fact that it does control hers and many others here.

Leila, feel free to post the Quran any time you want (F) and I can just skip it if I don't want to read it. I'm a big girl!

I owe Leyla an apology too... for laughing at the Libyan flag........

That's the spirit HB. I agree, we don't have to read what we don't want. :)

Thanks!

 that was nice of you Liz.

As for the Laundry Subject I think to most of us now it's a dead topic end of story.

I really don't want to be the VJ Police of this thread I made. I hope people go back to the first post I ever made and read why i made it. First and foremost it was about venting at the immigration process, second about life in general. It's about helping!!. If there is something you don't like, then bypass it. We choose what we want to read it doesn't choose us.

Thanks !!!

ummm.... my name is Layla  or more appopriately ليلي

Just Kidding...

Thanks for the apology honeyblonde but it was not necessary... I think I already explained why I posted from the Quran and to whom it was directed. I am well aware that not everyone here is muslim :star:

I do agree with vanillabean that it seems that anyone who has a more conservative view gets "disagreements" hoisted at them rather freely.

Iceyspots????? Why were you laughing at the Libyan flag????:lol:

I realized I misspelled your name after I posted but hoped the intent would be understood, thanks for not getting mad. (F) Don't expect me to write it in Arabic anytime soon though, even though I think the language is quite beautiful written I just don't have time to learn it right now with school. My sister has a cat named Leila, which is why that spelling was familiar to me.

You know, it isn't only those who are more conservative who get blasted. I felt the sting the other night because I was too liberal. It does go all ways here. Women are just quite catty by nature and we all bare our claws more than we ought to. Many of us also take things way too personal sometimes too. I guess that means we're actually becoming friends since if it was just a bunch of strangers we wouldn't care so much what they thought, right?

I think another dynamic we all need to be aware of here is the age difference. We have some younger women in their 20s, middle ages in their 30s, and us old people over 40. Any time you have that age spread you have moms and daughters and you deal with the younger group wanting to be respected as having something important to say and the older women, many who have grown children, having to be careful not to come across as "moms". I honestly think we do pretty good at communicating considering all the different things that could go wrong!

Ok, off my soapbox and back to economics. I haven't picked up the textbook I'm reading today in so long I forgot where I was at in it. Guess I'll start at the last chapter I have to read and work backwards. Hopefully I'll get it all read before the final!

 Angel that is a fantastic idea and I'm sure you could do some serious sales !! Of course you would have to offer all sizes so as not to make it so obviously a "big woman's clothes store." But build it and I am certain they will come !

"Niche marketing" is something that's not really caught on over there with the sellers too much.... but I really think the consumers are ready for it.

Ohhh Andrea...I'm soooo sorry to hear that! Its so hard when you can't do anything to help someone you love. Hopefully he will get a slap on the wrist and nothing else :star:

I know what you mean about being bugged about the waiting thing, sounds like you are handling it better than me. Today is Easter for me and my hunny and we are on the outs :(, the waiting thing is soooo trying and makes issues out of things that would normally be non-issues.

I can't remember who in our forum used this logic once, but I thought it was cute. To help you get through the waiting Andrea, get a calendar, mark up all the holidays, birthday, special occasions, etc. Everytime you cross one off, know that it will be the last one of those events you spend without you habiby. :star:
