I'm curious on this, too. It seems like, from what I can tell (and I could be totally off base), a lot of the fiancees/wives on this forum are Muslim. My fiance is Muslim, and I am Christian, and that has probably been our biggest issue in deciding on whether we would get engaged. We have a lot of differences, but we respect each other, and love each other so much that we couldn't let those differences tear us apart. We did have to be realistic and discuss what these differences mean as far as our lifestyle, whether we would have children, etc.

Are there any other couples of mixed religions in here? How do you make it work? Have the religious differences been responsible for any problems between you and your spouse? I'd be interested to hear any tips you have. I know we're going to have to work at it, but we've been fortunate to have spent a whole year together prior to the engagement, so we know what it's like to be together on a day-to-day basis. I am hoping that we'll be able to work through our differences and that it will make us stronger.

My fiance is Muslim and I am a Christian. We have had a lot of indepth talks regarding this and we don't see it as being an issue. I respect his religion and he respects mine. :D

It all comes down to respecting each other's beliefs, IMO.

I think a Christian and a Muslim can have just as much in common as two Muslims (once you decide what to raise your children). Muslims are not cookie cutter people (and the same can be said for people of any religion)-- there are Muslims who take the Quran very literally, some who adhere more to ahadith and others who don't, and all sorts of progressive Muslims that may adhere to some or none of the traditional interpretations. A very progressive Muslim may have less in common with a very traditional Muslim than a traditional Muslim and conservative Christian in terms of how they lead their daily lives.

Kelly I'm glad you posted it's good to hear from you!! I know the first month can be hectic especially when you are trying to get a routine down..still working on that one myself :) Keep us updated!

I am christian and my husband is muslim. Religion never was a problem between us. Although it was his duty to ask me to convert and it was my decision not to and he respected that. I guess that fact that he is from jordan and he lives among arab christians and knows the families. His mother is very close friends with a lot of christian ladies in their neighborhood. So everytime I would go to visit she would invite them over and we will all sit around and talk..Not about religion about just about life in general. I know once we have children they will be muslim and i have no problem with that. But I though most of us here that posted where christians with muslim husband with a exception of a few. I guess I was wrong??

I wanted to tell you my ice tea story. I mentioned to Hachemi the other day that i missed my sweet ice tea. A little while later he came in with some lipton tea bags. So he found a pitcher for me and I made the sweet tea. They do not use ice cubes here so i put the pitcher of tea in the fridge. I told hachemi that I would drink it tomorrow after it gets cold. His mom did not understand that it is supposed to be cold and before I went to bed I looked on the table and his mom had taken it back out of the fridge and placed it on the table. He had to explain to her what it was and that it needed to be in the fridge.

:lol: Yacine didn't understand the concept of me making sweet tea either... no idea why it is cold...

yes, I think I am lucky to be living near a few ME groceries where I can get halal meat. I already bought some frozen halal sausages because of the sausage and pepper dish that Ahmed prepared. But I have told him he might be living on frozen Kofta and fried potatoes for awhile if he doesn't want to eat what I will fix!!!

I bought some Al-Safa halal hot dogs last week.... They are all beef... They had a frightening taste to them so I threw them away... I'm not sure if they all taste like that, or if they're from a bad batch!!

On the latest subject :

Soo let's the change the subject now shall we ?

When your SO finally gets the visa and comes out to the US where is the first place you plan on taking him/her ? If they are already here where did you take them ?

NYC, Chicago... and most importantly........ CEDAR POINT !! :)

We need to start a little support group for when our SO finally get here. To be honest withyou all this immigration process is only a little part of what happens. So if anyone is up for that let me know or if you have suggestions please post them. Be nice to share ideas on how to cope with the aftermath and make sure our marriages succeed and not fall by the wayside. I know i had some overwhelming days where i felt i couldn't cope with my new situation even though me and my husband have known each other for years i still felt overwhelmed by the situation.

Angel

A lot of people disappear when their SO comes... haha.. must be all that newfound quality time together!

This does spark my curiosity though.... If this question is not offensive to anyone (because I don't mean it to be I'm just curious) how many women here are marrying or are married to muslim men but are not yourself muslim?

Both me and my SO are Sunni Muslims.

The 2nd place we went was to Wal-Mart. First a regular Wal-Mart. He said.. "ya salam! very big..every thing is here".... THEN the SUPERCENTER... He said .. "YA SALAAAAAMMMMMM KTEEEEEEER BIG STORE" He was the same as Jackies husband.. couldn't believe that you could get clothes, food, bank, get ur eyes checked, and get ur car fixed all in the same place.

:lol: I know that Yacine is going to freak out when he sees stores like that here... In Reghaia, where he lives, you go to a separate store for meat, vegetables, fruits, breads, banking, auto...etc...

BTW - I can't ever shop at wal-mart, it is the most evil form of corrupt capitalism... especially the ones in canada!

Kelly, congrats Soyfan for me on the green card. Yeah! How are you feeling? Well, checked the USCIS and they by passed the date they received our I130 and I am waiting to hear the news soon. Now, doubt it will make it down there before Faisal's interview on August 23rd but if it does, hopefully they will interview him for that. I told him, don't tell him that you want to wait till the I130 gets there, God, you would lose your interview date and not interview until way into 2007. I told him that when he gets there, and they say we got the I130 and wish to interview him on that instead and he can do it at that moment, then "Yes".

Have a great day ladies and gents.

Andrea,

Don't worry they will interview for the CR/IR-1 if the 130 gets there while he's waiting for the interview. The paperwork is just about the same anyways.

And even though AMM is busy as heck, they know exactly what is going on :o . And they will probably tell him he's interveiwing for the CR/IR-1 before he even brings it up. He did pay the 100 for the K3 already, so they have that $ and the IV $. Less work, same $. :-)

Kelly congrats on Sofyan getting his green card.

Andrea, Lulu is correct so do not worry. They will interview him for the I-130 if it is at embassy before his K3 interview and it should be. Good luck.

Hello Ladies,

Just came back in town from Austin, Texas. I was visiting some family out there and had a great time. I must say I'm glad I missed some of the topics that have been flying around and I agree with Kelly, that's exactly what off-topic is for.

Windancer...Janauary 2007? I can't believe that!!! What is going on overthere? That surely does not mean good news for me or anyone else going through amman that has not gotten a date yet! But I have decieded that I'm not gonna stress about it until I know what my date is, once we figure that out, I will decide what to do from there.

LB- thanks for your concern, I just couldnt get to the computer over there, I was enjoying the nice weather since we have has nothing but rain where I live for the last 5 weeks!
