I agree with Honeyblonde. Although the family is so importantto the Arab man, you are his immediate family. Please be careful that they don't over intrude.

So happy your husband is here. Wow, that was fast. He went to pick up his passport shortly after the interview and he's already here. Cooooooooooooool

STay in touch. How does he like the cold Illinois?

I hear ya Dawn. When Youssef came over he flew home from Morocco with his brother (who lives in New York.) They wanted him to stay in New York for at least 4 days (1-2 weeks they thought would be perfect). I was soooooo angry, sad, annoyed, depressed etc. They did help us out a lot but it made me angry that they wouldn't even think about my feelings. We had worked to hard and waited to long to be together, and they wanted ME to wait for him as soon as he got here! I was going to fly to NYC but I couldn't afford that ticket (plus his ticket from Morocco). I made the family a deal that if he stayed for 1 1/2 days (they had to go to work all day anyway!) we would come back as soon as we could (we're going next week). Ultimately I think Youssef realized how upset I was and that was what we did. While you don't think Hatem would understand your feelings, maybe you should try to express it to him? Like, "Honey, I know you are really happy to see your family and be here with them but I really miss you, and would like to spend some alone time with you." It can get really frustrating - and honestly it doesn't go away. Youssef now is talking about us moving to NYC after i finish school (august) and getting an apartment with his bro and sis-in law or at least very close to them. I'm leery of the idea...

Anyway - best of luck to you = hang in there and try to stay positive!

Everyday, I find a new reason to keep reading this thread. I thought I was alone. My fiance's family is doing the same thing. They want him come directly to them and spend a month with them. Then, they will all fly to the South to meet me and my family a week before the wedding. I am livid! After all the work I did to help him get his visa, I think the least he can do is come to me first and then go visit with them for a couple of weeks this summer after we have settled into our new home. I even offered to go visit them with him if he would wait until this summer.

Can you imagine me not seeing him for 10 months and then seeing him again only 1 week before I married him? That's insane. I need time to get used to his company again.

His family even offered us a room in their house if I would agree to relocate to their city and state. No, thanks! We don't need to start our marriage with both of us being unemployed.

On a more positive note, I am glad they will be here to help him adjust to life in the country. Only they understand the culture shock that someone from their country will experience. Even though they are thousands of miles away, they will be a huge source of support for us. He keeps me reminding me that whatever they say or do is done out of love. :luv:

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine.

Just a couple things...

when I logged in to this thread earlier, the topic was toilets, bidets, butt-sprayers, squatter holes.....and the advertising in the upper margin was for a bathroom fixture wholesaler and a basement renovating contractor. I didn't mean to, but I changed the topic and now the advertising is for the visa lawyer again. Hmmmmm, can I control the advertising? I guess I will enjoy taking power where I can get it.

secondly, I had no idea that this was happening to others. I even felt bad after I posted it. I'm fine and believe me there are worse things new couples have to go through so I don't want to over react but this just upset me.

Anyway, thanks everybody that shared a similar experience.

Hey Lamaestra,

I know it totally sucks!!! :dead: Although we are TRYING to plan an escape, the fact of the matter is we will most likely be in the same situation as everyone else. I think my reunion at the airport will include more of his family than my own. especially since they live so close to us. I keep having dreams that his cousins are going to hog up all his time

I guess patience is a virtue, but i just don't know how to get any of it!!! :hehe:

Jordanian Princess

:D Hey Dawn - Welcome back, I hope Hatem is adjusting comfortably and you as well!! I noticed the same thing the other day! I was thinking where the heck did that toilet sprayer add come from??? I'm glad i'm not the only one that noticed it! So other than all his family being at the airport, how was ur reunion??????

Trust me ... we all know how you feel ! Like, JordanianPrincess, we were thinking of planning an escape route too ! It's okay though, things can be worse.

Dawn I am soooo happy for you !!! YAAY ! Doesn't it feel great to get your life started again ? I fee like mine is on hold ... and won't start till he comes. Although I'm graduating college in January and am a full time teacher, it's not the same without my second half.

Reunited and it feels so good ....
