On a different note...i have a staff of 8 and i have heard them ALL..but the best one had to be one employee telling me...." my airplane can't find a parking spot." ........i think he meant that there was a delay at the gate and the plane had to wait for a gate to open..

We are allowed 9 personal days per year in addition to vacations days.... that's all we have to do is call in and say we are taking a personal day...no excuses needed, and in fact according to our HR manual, we don't have to give the specifics. They don't care if the personal day is used for being sick, feeling lazy, or running errands. I like it that way. We don't get to sell them back, we just lose them at the start of the new year, so it's encouraged to just use them up.

One time in high school I was calling in for my friend and pretended to be her Mom. So I started the message then all of a sudden I couldn't stop laughing and I said "Madeleine can't come in today, she's having cra cra craaaaaaaa craaaaamps". Then I just hung up. That was bad.

When I've held standard jobs, I just plain and simply say I will not be in today. I don't try to make a peformance. I've always felt employers need to be a whole lot more flexible in their attitudes towards unpaid time off. My family comes first and always will. If I need to be with them for some reason I do. I believe in checking my work attire at the front door, when I get home. I am theirs ONLY during working hours. However, I remain a husband and father 24 hours every day. Employers NEED to respect that.

I agree completely....but.....there are those who use family to take off..i have employees that sa they have doctor's appt's for their child..and a couple weeks after forget they used that appointment as the reason for taking off and start telling me how they went to a BBQ or something completely different than the "Dr's appointment"

15 years on my job only missed one day so i really have no stories but i do get to cash out my sick leave pay once a year around extra $200 after taxes. lol

I take sick days here and there just to decompress... Especially since I don't take leave often... I'm the exact opposite of most folks in that they don't take sick leave but take vacations. Well, I don't take vacations, but I take sick leave.
