I'm not saying that I'll create an excuse to call in sick when I just need a day off, but I'm really interested in what you guys say when you do that. Who goes first?

Im actually the boss here. If I can't come in I just dont go. But usaully, it is for a good reason and I work lots of OT and weekends when needed. Everyone else that works here works hard also so they can call in anytime they want and say they cant come in - I dont ask questions because the work will get done.

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .

I called in sick one day last year because my husband and I needed to make a little day trip to San Fransisco so he could get his visa to go to France and visit his sister. An hour out of town the cell phone died and I didnt have the car charger with me so we were without a phone. So we spent our day, took care of business, arrived back home early evening to find a note on the door from my manager and about 20 messages on the phone. Apparently there were some big time sensitive problems on a couple of the projects I was working on and there had been some desperate attempts to contact me. The whole scene was pretty ugly.

I've gone years w/o taking sick days. This changed when our baby arrived. I've taken three days this year - two when Nani was sick and couldn't care for our baby and one when both Nani and our baby weren't feeling well. I haven't really been sick enough not to go to work in quite some time. If I need to take time off, my job is flexible enough. On top of that, I have (vacation days, personal days and floating holidays combined) effectively just over 6 weeks a year that I can take off. Eight weeks this year since I carried two over from 2006.

One good way to sound authentic is to hang your head upside down over the sofa. It does something funny to your throat so you can sound like you have a sore throat, cold or something.

Not that I've ever done this, just passing it on.:lol:

Yep, slightly plugging your nose will also sound authentic.

Being the guy that sits on the receiving end of these calls, I always find it interesting that people tend to fall ill on Fridays and Mondays. Bacteria and viruses must be more aggressive around the weekends. I swear, when I look at the track record, 90% of "S" entries fall on a Friday or Monday...

when i was younger i call in sick with the most embarrass ailments know to mankind...i have explosive diarrhea ... a case of trench foot...fell down and rack myself and worried i got a hernia..everyone believes it, cause psychologically no one would make up such a terrible embarrassing story.

note..always if not ill, make up a story that is "shock and awe".

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Fortunately for us all we have to do is call in say say we aren't coming to work. As long as we have annual leave we can take the time of with pay. Life is good

I've missed 2 days of work in 20 years. I don't have any stories.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

The last job I was at for 11 years, I think I maybe called in 10 times. Now there were times I had to have surgery or I was on maternity leave and I'm not counting that in. I am however trying to think of something good for this coming Monday. Any ideas???
