In so many ways America has the opportunity which so many other nations didn't have - being able to look at the models around the world and cherry pick the best of the best and avoid the worst of the worst.

How can any nation send funds abroad for any number of causes and have their own people at home without access to basic health care until they hit an emergency room when it may be too late or if it isn't may cost them their home! I'm sorry this is one issue I feel strongly about and the more I see the more appalled I become again I say you judge a society by how it looks after those least able to look after themselves ..............

My thoughts exactly.

here's food for thought for anyone wanting healthcare run by the government.......

once upon a time, the government promised free healthcare for life if you work long enough for it. over time, that becomes a fee based system. it's not much, just $400-$550 a year for you and your family - along with some co-pays, so you suck it up. but then there's attempts to raise that price to almost $2000 a year which almost became law - maybe in the future it will come back and become law. and then there are the cuts in service. outsourcing. red tape. long waits. denied services because they are deemed cosmetic or elective. and somewhere along the way, you became last priority to be seen. and in some cases, where you used to go has closed to save money for the budget and now you have to drive X number of hours to be seen by a doctor.

is the above real? yes, it's the military health care system for retirees. originally touted as free for life - and then you get shuffled off to medicare when you are old enough. what was supposed to be a free program for 20 or more years of military service has so far run me about $750 this year alone and still counting. so much for their promises. be careful what you wish for, as you might just get it with the government "running the program." ;)
